Sad to hear the news...................I think it would have been quite a pen!

Thanks for trying, guys. You took a considerable amount of time out of

your lives to try to make a dream possible for some of us. :clap1:

All:

Eric and Fred spent some time with the celluloid producer on Saturday. Although the producer's enthusiasm about the product is admirable, these delays in the manufacture, curing, shipping and delivery of this celluloid lead us to an unavoidable conclusion. While a small pen-maker can accept such a scenario, it is intolerable for a major manufacturer to rely upon an unreliable and sporadic source of raw material. Under current circumstances, we cannot reasonably expect Montblanc to embrace a plan to produce a product where it must use a raw material that is, in essence, unavailable. Perhaps a small number of pens could be made someday, but that's mere speculation at this juncture.

The re-release of a striated green 146 by Montblanc is not going to be feasible anytime soon. So, with sad pragmatism, Eric, Solomon and Fred are ending this project.

On a lighter note, however, ideas were bounced around with the supplier (who is a Euro pen collector) on other Montblanc model re-releases that would not rely upon the celluloids. That's for another day.

Eric, Fred and Solomon

Thanks for the fantastic effort and vision that this took. I am sure this effort will not be the last as true pen nuts know no bounds and no heights that cannot be reached with a little imagination. Best regards to the dream team that made this possible.

I'd like to add my sincere thanks too - you have taken my mind on an incredible journey to MB land and back. Some things are just not do-able, but you tried so hard - and in the end it was the celluloid that we all craved that did us in!! :crybaby:

I wait for the next adventure!!! Thanks again

Each day is the start of the rest of your life!

Make it count!!!

I hate believing that this dream is over. Thank-you for trying. I shall still hold out hope that FPN can convince Montblanc to do a special edition of some sort, though. You have my support always!

Sooooo.... Just wondering...

If not a 146, what pen will be made from that lovely celluloid (if any)? Still could make a nice pen... :puddle:

Kush,

When it is finally available, you can be sure it will be be bought by pen turners, pen restorers and the like. For instance, check out Brian Gray's Edison Pen Co. and see what custom pens he can make for you on a small scale. And what a great guy, too!

With this material available, unrepairable Montblanc green striated pens may become useable and beautiful again.

That's just what I was thinking. I have several wonderful Edison pens, and my mind is already wandering over the options for using this for another...

I'm sad to hear that this project has come to and end, but, well, let's just say that I have my next two Edisons planned. You did mention that green and gray striated celluloids were being produced, right? There goes next year's pen budget... ph34r.gif Here's to hoping the material is available to penmakers relatively soon!

Been away from FPN for some months only to return recently to hear this news. A noble effort by Eric, Fred and Solomon that has come to a sad, but understandable conclusion. My thanks for persevering and taking the project as far as you did.

Why don't you hire somebody to take the celuloid and just make your own '146s'?? You could buy a bunch of 146 second hand and take the parts to go into your green pens. Expensive? Sure, but you could sell the parts left over to recoup some of the cost.

The fear of lawsuits from MB would probably deter people from doing this. MB is known to be extremely protective about its designs and branding.

Curious they don't seem to bother with the Baoer 'Skywalker', a rather blatant look-alike.

This is too easy since you mentioned it already. Why not come up with a special pen using this material made by a custom turner manufacturer/craftsman like Edison?

Any news about the green/gray striated celluloid. I would definitely like to get a custom pen made with it.
