I only own one MB (so far) (a Boheme) and I really like it. I hope it's not too late to be put on the list. I'm sending an email to Solomon. It seems to me that my dad might have had a pen colored with the green striation, but either he or my mom threw most of their FPs away (before I got interested in them). :crybaby:

What I actually meant was that I have e-mailed Soloman in accordance with the instructions on Page 1 of this thread, sorry!

Raul, that avatar of yours is appropriate for this declaration of frustration. Green striated pens sitting in the dustbin with dinner scraps and tins???

Say it isn't true.

Yes. This was pre-computer, pre-internet, they thought, "Nobody uses fountain pens anymore." Or, they assumed that you couldn't replace a bladder anymore. You get the idea.

I am not certain that it was a green striated pen either. However, that is an impression I had from that period. I am merely aware that they threw out fountain pens.

Actually, they kept a copper dipping pen, I think it is a dipper. Looks like a big metal feather with a nib on the end of it. I forget what the other one was. But, yes, they threw them out in the trash.

FWIW, I have similar reactions when people throw away cameras. :roflmho:

Dear broker,

I am afraid I did not get your earlier email. Have received the latest though. Will send a confirmation email to your email address once I update the list.

I travel to remote areas of Laos, Cambodia and Thailand very frequently so please bear with me if my reply is slower than you'd expect.

Thank you for your participation.

For anyone else reading this solomonvarma@hotmail.com is the correct email address.

Stay well,

Solomon

Newbie here: I just e-mailed to get on to the list, and noticed that it has been a few months since there was any traffic in this thread. Are things still progressing? Thanks!

Eric (Niksch) and I plan to meet with the celluloid source on Saturday, and then we'll know more.

All:

Eric and Fred spent some time with the celluloid producer on Saturday. Although the producer's enthusiasm about the product is admirable, these delays in the manufacture, curing, shipping and delivery of this celluloid lead us to an unavoidable conclusion. While a small pen-maker can accept such a scenario, it is intolerable for a major manufacturer to rely upon an unreliable and sporadic source of raw material. Under current circumstances, we cannot reasonably expect Montblanc to embrace a plan to produce a product where it must use a raw material that is, in essence, unavailable. Perhaps a small number of pens could be made someday, but that's mere speculation at this juncture.

The re-release of a striated green 146 by Montblanc is not going to be feasible anytime soon. So, with sad pragmatism, Eric, Solomon and Fred are ending this project.

On a lighter note, however, ideas were bounced around with the supplier (who is a Euro pen collector) on other Montblanc model re-releases that would not rely upon the celluloids. That's for another day.

Eric, Fred and Solomon

Thank you all, for all the effort and work. I hope you got some value from it yourselves anyway. I know I had fun thinking about its potentially being in my hands! And even observing the attempt as described by you was enlightening.

Thanks,

Michael

Bad news indeed!

Thinking outside the box, then, what about trying to recreate the striated look using precious resin material? Mont Blanc may even be able to do that in house: their special edition pens prove that they can do colors other than black.

If a 146 re-issue doesn't work out, perhaps we should start pitching a 50th anniversary 149 instead? Special nib, mother of pearl star, silver/platinum rings to mimic those on the first 149s, perhaps a clear ink window... They could probably do something like that quite easily!
