60th Anniv reissue of 146 Meisterstuck green striated FP

Lots of the intangible, actually, while the celluloid is still curing. (By the way, vintage MB marbled blue and platinum lined was also made.) I cannot claim a breakthrough, but that is not unexpected (see my last longer post, above), but there is progress. I am also being discrete.

I'm going to hold off on a blue Aurolide with chrome trim to see how the striated blue with platinum works out :happyberet:

Definitely much prefer silver trim in general on my pens (personal preference). Any pics? Or will it be similar the Edgar A. Poe in colour?

http://www.montblanc.com/44.php

Hoping the "precious celluloid" is less brittle and prone to cracking than *ahem* "precious resin*!

Edit: the last comment is tongue is cheek. I just paid for a new platinum trim 146 in black resin and am thinking seriously about the blue or green in this thread. Neither my local mb stockist or I are mb haters, but the repair person did mention they saw more returns in the black resin then in their older celluloid pens.

Fred was referring to two separate types of celluloid. One is very similar to the old PL grey/silver striated celluloid MB used. The marbled blue celluloid is like the lapis celluloid of the 20s if I remember correctly.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Thank a Veteran.

Got an example or are you just repeating stuff you've read about from MB haters.

Tanalasta,

Please start a new thread if you are going to reply on the latter issue.

Thanks!

A historical collection would be great but only if they make the monsters like the 139. Oh what I would give for a 149 in grey stripe with platinum trim...

Do you mean similar to the lapis blue found here: http://www.penboard.de/shop/shopartikeldetails.php?id=9570&la=en

If so, that's a gorgeous colour and I would love to anticipate what the finished product may be. Would also be interested to see what the potential nib sizes and designs on offer may be. And whether the feel of the nib will be similar or different to modern MB 146's.

I just received a new, MB146 with an extra-fine nib and it's a wonderful, smooth writer. A bit on the hard side compared to my sailor but I like it nonetheless.

Yeah, you and me both... Actually any striated in a 149 or 139, and I would be the extremely stoked to the max! You can put me down for a bakers dozen of those bad boys!!!!

Was the 149 ever offered in any of the striated celluloids?

It's nice to have the historical reference, although there's nothing wrong with creating history now.

Hat's off to the crew that has pulled this off, and to Montblanc for responding. Kind of deflates a lot of the complaining that goes on about Montblanc. Good for them.

I saw in the previous thread that there would be a full flex nib option but have not seen that mentioned here in this thread. Is that still an option on the table or is that long done for?

Short answer is no. That's why we picked the 146.

And the fact that the 149 is a sacred cow of Montblanc design. I'm super excited to know if and when this gets approved by MB.

From the original post:

What you must do: If you want one of these glorious fountain pens (or if the pens are numbered (not decided) and you want a lower number rather than a higher number), get on the list by sending your email to Solomon (FPN ID: varmas) stating your interest and how many pens you want. The target price had not changed as of today, but we'll let you know as things develop, of course.

Email address: solomonvarma@hotmail.com

Please don't use PM to contact Solomon. And note that Solomon is in Singapore, so due to time differences, don't expect an immediate reply. Please be patient.

Hmm, I've previously sent my intention to purchase to Soloman. However, can I also pre-book for the serial number, if it is "bookable"? e.g. 999, 888, 88, 8, 138, 168, 238, 268, 668, 333 etc?

Best regards, Kai

An update. The green striated celluloid is still in the curing process, and we want to ensure high quality, so we are not rushing to failure. We are continuing to pursue this green-striated 146 even if we are past the gate for a "60th Anniversary" pen.

Good to hear.

When I first heard about this project I was like crazy about it. Now, months later I am still very interested, but in a more measured way. It seems the project proponents have done a good job explaining the difficulties that are involved in making this great opportunity happen. Just wanted to say I am still very much interested and hope to hear good things as we approach the second half of 2010. Passing along continued encouragement and good luck to the fulfillment of a great project.
