Nice pen! Congratulations!! Would love to see some closeups of the band on the cap--looks like some fine engraving work there. What nib did you choose? Have you written with it yet?

I will try to get a close up of the band but my digital camera is not the best. However, you are correct in that it is extremely ornate and both the band and cap are solid sterling silver (AG 925).

I chose the fine nib and it writes smooth as silk. This is my 3rd Etruria and 4th Stipula and I have to say that the nibs are perhaps the finest in the world out of the box!

Hi John,

Thanks for the info. I just checked out the pen from Swishers's site, this pen is a cartridge/converter filler.

Do you have any issues with this Etruria ? hard start, skips etc ?

The reason I am asking is because I have had bad experience with an Amber cartridge convertible having hard start problems. I sold the pen with the issues mentioned to the buyer. He may have solved the issues or he may have been living with it, I am not sure.

As such, my current Etruria collection are all piston fillers.

Thanks,

Mui

Congrats on the new Stipula Etruria Gaudi Pedrera! This is one of two Etrurias that pays homage to Antonio Gaudì by Stipula. I have the same version you've acquired, and also purchased mine from Swisher. Enjoy the pen!

Talking about fountain pens is like dancing about architecture.

Unfortunately, they tried to deliver it today and no one was home!!!! They won't deliver without a signature so I don't have it yet.

I am trying to arrange to pick it up hopefully tomorrow.

Hi Mui -

No - there is no skipping or hard starts. However, in my experience this would not be hard to fix. The problem would be with the converter. I know that because the nib and feed is the same on all Etrurias (they are totally interchangeable). That being the case and because we know the piston fill models work great, the only other variable is the converter.

Therefore, the first thing one does to verify this is simply use a cartridge. If the cartridge works fine then the converter needs to be cleaned of contaminants. Either use another converter that you know works with another pen or soak the cartridge overnight in a mixture of water with a drop of dishwashing liquid and a drop of ammonia. Suck the mixture up and out a number of times and then let it soak. Then rinse clean before use.

I have seen a number of good pens get blamed for problems that I found to be in the converter. Although they all look the same, "all converters are not created equal"!!!!

Arrgh! Don't ya hate it when that happens, still something to look forward to for the weekend, I am really looking forward to your thoughts on it!

All the best.
