My latest Mont Blanc

Well, I actually bought one on Ebay, despite trepidation. And I'm pleased with what I got. The pen is an older model 31, and the first one like it I ever had. The seller said that it dates from 1959, which jibes with what I have seen in some web searching. It's in quite good shape, and writes beautifully, with a wet fine line. The pen is smaller and much lighter in weight compared to most of my other fountain pens, but I can see it becoming a favorite. It's a piston filler, and that is a plus for me. I do have a question for the pros regarding the imprint on the "14c" nib. In the Mont Blanc splat is the letter D. The seller's page said that this means "pressure" nib, and this makes the pen relatively rare, according to him. I don't care about rarity, as I plan on using the pen, but what is a "pressure" nib? I've never encountered one before.

If I recall correctly, it's like a manifold nib. Very stiff and is/was used to write on carbon paper.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Thank a Veteran.

That makes sense, as the pen writes very well, but applying additional pressure doesn't seem to have any effect at all. Makes sense, and thank you. Now I can't wait to go to work tomorrow to try it on carbonized forms. The one use I had given up on for fountain pens. Excellent! I sincerely hope you are right. Thanks again.

Come on how about some pictures :puddle:

Okay, give me some time. The only thing less capable then my digital camera is my own abilities with it. But if I can get some clear pictures, I'll post them.

Hi,

I'd actually recommend against using it for carbon forms. Don't ruin a good pen! If I remember, the plastic on the 31 and 32 sometimes gains cracks, and undue stress on the pen may cause you to regret.

Thanks for that heads up. I'll still try a carbon copy, but I won't get " crazy" on applying pressure to a wonderful nib.

Do you have a better photo of the nib? You may have a frankenpen. I'm not familiar with a model 31, but I have both a 32 and a 34 and the nib on your pen is different than on the 32 and 34. It looks like part of the "hood" over your nib is missing or has been modified to accept a different nib. I can't tell for sure by your photos. What is written around the bottom of the cap band?

Krom's pen looks like this 32 photo'd here: http://www.fountainpen.de/old-70-32-d.htm > I thought the auction said 31 also. I've dealt with that seller for 10 years, and don't think he would sell a frankenpen.

Niksch,

My bad. You are correct. I was not aware that the 32D had a different nib hood than a regular 32 or 34. Thanks for the link to the better photos.
