Majestic Blue

Thanks for the great review and also for the tip for those of us in the US who sometimes get frustrated by Diamine inks not always being in stock from our favorite dealer. The chocolate brown is on my list and now this great Majestic Blue!

Just yesterday I saw jonquils in bloom and was transported back to my visit to Grasmere in 1990 and seeing jonquils in bloom around Wordsworth's grave.

Cheers to you for this review!

You threw me there. We call them daffodils this side of the pond as in "I wondered lonely as a cloud..." to quote Wordsworth.

Mine arrived yesterday and i'm really impressed with it. Real dark blue, no purple.Good shading...terrific ink. I would love a majestic green.

Since my scan does show some cobalt and it doesn't have it, this is a segment of my review that I photographed. Its a bit closer to the actual ink colour - I hope it gives you a little flavour of it. I also agree with GeeTee it would be great to have the equivalent in green (and purple as well!).

Very tasty. And majestic. This really breaks new ground, as there is nothing quite like it out there now, as far as I know.

Agreed, and I'm also with tawanda on a Majestic Red. If it shaded like the blue does, from an almost-bright color down to nearly black, it would be awesome, a true "red-black".

I just recieved a bottle of this ink. It is a very nice, extremely dark blue. (Quite a lot darker than the photos in this thread show. I'm actually thinking of diluting the ink with water.)

Yes, the actual ink is darker when laid down by FP (Eversharp Skyline medium nib) than my wet colour swabs did suggest. To enjoy the nice colour the swab suggests, one should use it with a dry italic nib.

Just have ordered a bottle of the ink.

Hope it will be the dark blue ink of the picture ....

I bought some colours from Diamine including this one, Majestic Blue. I just tried it (Lamy Studio EF nib and Clairefontaine paper) and I can perfectly see some of those "reddish effects" like in Penman Sapphire. I know nobody cares about that but just in case... :puddle: :cloud9:

I've noticed these reddish reflections, too. They are "available" with Sailor Blue and Private Reserve DC Electric Blue, too.

These true blues seem to cause reflections in the complementary colour.

Received a bottle yesterday. Indeed a very dark blue with some reddish reflection as if there's too much dye.. This ink looks like it's a tad too saturated.

When diluted it becomes a bit more turquoise-like. Maybe I like that even better!

OK. Have Majestic Blue under fingernail of left hand index finger and in eye-droppered barrel of Mercury 'Francois des Trixhes' (in Tibaldi Impero celluloid) with Tibaldi B nib.

First impressions, on Lett's diary paper, are:

- saturated colour, but with quite dramatic shading

- colour ranges from almost black, through dark blue (not blue black) to mid-blue (almost Quink) with little or no variation in nib pressure

- very wet and almost puddling with this wet nib

- good feedback

- fluorescence under angled electric light.

So, I can understand why, in drier pens, it's become so popular so fast.

For me, it's not blue enough and I'll stick with Diamine WES Imperial Blue, which is a 'better behaved' ink.

Just a note to say that if you add a touch of water, the red tones go and the blueness increases. I'm liking this ink (where have I heard that before? ) and I suspect it is as close as anyone has come to the legendary Penman Sapphire.

Only pages and pages of use will tell, and that must be in the pen of mine that shows Sapphire off to its best advantage (Cross Century Classic broad nib).

Just got a small bottle of this, and I love it. The colour is unlike any other blue I have tried, and it really pops off the page. I like the red reflections, so won't be adding any water! Flow is excellent, but it seems to dry very quickly on an exposed nib which may be a problem for certain uses. Has anyone else noticed this? No big deal for me, and I will definitely be adding a large bottle of this to my next Diamine order.
