I tried the paper bag trick and never found it to be as reliable as using a Micromesh kit. The finest grade micromesh that comes with the large kit really cleans up nibs, in my experience. I never had any such success the couple of times I tried the paper bag.

I'm closing this thread. A brown paper bag does not work, a penny can ruin your nib, and the OP (before he passed away) wrote post saying not to use a paper bag.

 

There is a lot of useful material out there on how to properly smooth a nib, and what materials to use. Richard Binder has had a class at multiple pen shows teaching you how to smooth a nib. I suggest that you look into that.
