now I have pens by

Koichiro Okayuki - Tame-Ake Bokashi-nuri

Masayuku Hariya - Kin Botan-nuri Prototype

and Koichiro Okazawa - Asaborake.

Did Masanori Omote do the Mikado Sakura-kawa?

It's almost as much fun collecting artist as pens!

Hi Joi,

If I may, some corrections. Hiroyuki Okazawa is the son of Koichiro Okazawa. Keep an eye on this young man, he will be great one day just like his dad.

The Sakura-kawa is indeed by Masanori Omote who runs a maki-e school and some of his students has gone on to work for other well known pen companies as well.

How does one know who's who? Some my pens don't have artist signatures...

while some company may employ urushi artist for their urushi pens, Danitrio has the habit of using maki-e artist for their urushi pens. If a pen is made by an urushi artist, you may not find signatures, or if you do, you may see the name of their work shop, instead of any particular person. All your Tame-midori and Tame-nuri are all done by maki-e artist, Koichiro Okazawa.

Best,

Kevin

Man is it me or any other folks diggin' the finished clips?!! They're spectacular!

Yes, I'm a clipless girl but the finished clip disappears into the pen. These will be carried in cases, never pockets!

Kimy's attempt at helping stimulate the economy!! Go Kimy! :D

I done went, I did!

Join us, You will assimilate!!!!!!!!!

Too late, I joined the first time I opened a picture thread of maki-e pens. It just took a while before I could actually come to possess one of these creations of beauty and soul. Assimilated, I have been!

Or be assimilated!!!!!

Done deal! But I think I have a few more persons to blame now besides just Jopen...

Congrats to the owner of #2. That's a beauty!

It's your fault...

(well, maybe my own fault. Something about the moon just pulls me in...)

Yes, I'm a clipless girl but the finished clip disappears into the pen. These will be carried in cases, never pockets!

I'm not usually big on clips that have had maki-e applied. These are the exception, they are so exquisite. Now to find just the right case to preserve the beauty and art forever.

Between this and knowing that my Danitrio custom requests have been accepted, I am sooooo :cloud9:

Kimy I feel your pain and will take some blame. Really it's Jopen's fault!! B) But when you are writing with your new pen, you will be at peace. Until Jopen or Oboejuan or Winedoc puts up new pictures. :headsmack:

The moon is wonderful. I will have to look into it next year. Along with a wine Nami-nuri. Wow I have spent my 2010 budget already in Feb 2009. :crybaby:

You have an email for #3.

I managed to find translations for the four poems of the four pens.

For "Asaborake", the poem is

Fujiwara no Michinobu

Though I know indeed

That the night will come again

After day has dawned,

Still, in truth, I hate the sight

Of the morning's coming light.

For "Akikazu no Tsuki", the poem is

Fujiwara no Akisuke

See how clear and bright

Is the moonlight finding ways

Through the riven clouds

That, with drifting autumn wind,

Gracefully float in the sky.

For "Sakura Fubuki", the poem is

Fujiwara no Kintsune

Not the snow of flowers,

That the hurrying wild wind whirls

Round the garden court:

What withers and falls away

In this place is I myself.

For "Yura no To", the poem is

Sone no Yoshitada

Like a mariner

Sailing over Yura's strait

With his rudder gone:

Where, over the deep of love,

The end lies, I do not know.

To Altec green and Kimmy, many congratulations, they are beautiful pens and I am sure you will absolutely love them!

Kevin, are the paintings covered with a coat of clear urushi so as to protect them, I am just wondering about longevity?

You sell beautiful pens, I may have to re-think getting another Nakaya for one of your Danitrios instead! Just have to do a bit of saving!!

All the best.

Hi Ian,

Glad you like the pens. Urushi by nature is not clear, but rather kind of brownish like syrup color. The maki-e done by traditional method with burnishing over and over many times is quite durable as many of Japanese temples, tea cups, sake cups, hair pins and other decorateive items are done with maki-e same as some fancy ceremonial samurai sword "Tachi" scabard. Under normal usuage, there is no risks of maki-e coming off. This is not the same for screened maki-e which can come off with repetitive rubbing.

Best,

Kevin

These pens are so beautiful, it seems like an honour to own one. i love the way that the Japanese artists stamp their individuality onto their crafts, so that you get that extra sense of the pen being personal. that it is almost like a gift from them.

congratulations to those who have assimilated. i think i'd just better walk away from the tap-tap machine having brought the Sailor Moonlit yesterday on the advice of some kind person, zenshrink, who said it was 'a lovely pen'.

Yes AltecGreen; thank you so much for the poems.

It's so strange that my poem perfectly matches my personality. The Moon poem is my second favorite just as the pen was my second favorite. Life is strange.

And now I have a whole new group of poetry to investigate.

Thanks for the valuable info Kevin, that has allayed a concern of mine and is in all likelyhood going to lighten my wallet at some point in the next few months! :)
