Kaweco ink

Has anyone used it? Apparently it's made specifically for Kaweco and only comes in cartridges. You can see the cartridges and packs here, but there are no scans anywhere.

I used the included cartridge with the pen I purchased from them. I found it to be a satisfying experience, except that I personally did not care for the color. It flowed nicely and laid down a good line, seemed to be a decent flow rate. If I was a cartridge user and like the color I would have been willing to continue its use. I fill the cartridge from a bottle of what ever my heart desires at the time.

The Kaweco ink colors remind me a lot of the older Rotring colors.

Those are the colors which are available so far:

- Königsblau (royal blue)

- Sepia (sepia)

- Waldgrün (forrest green)

- Rot (red)

- Aubergine (aubergine)

- Schwarzblau (blue black)

- Schwarz (black)

- Türkis (turquoise)

The ones I've tried are really nice.

The Rot is a nice saturated medium red (like Omas A.Vespucci Red, Herbin Opera,...), the Türkis is very similar to the old Rotring Türkis, Caran d'Ache Caribbean Sea or the old Turquoise Green, the Schwarzblau also is similar to Caran d'Ache Blue Night and the Sepia is a darker, cooler brown.

Writing samples of the complete range will be included in the next Fountain Pen Ink Sample Booklet part VII.

As far as I know the Kaweco inks are made by Dr. Pflug from Aratrum (who also makes the Caran d'Ache inks).

Cheers

How cool! It seems that so often when I come to this forum, there's a new(to me) ink manufacturer mentioned--many seem to be in Germany. The ink samples on Aratrum site look terrific--Michael, do you know if these inks are available on a retail basis?

Thank you, Michael!!

Do you think the samples on the Aratrum site look similar to your Kaweco inks?

No, not at all. The samples shown on the site are computer generated colors and no actual ink samples so they vaguely show the type of color (at least compared to the Kaweco inks). I will try to post a scan of the Kaweco colors in a few days.

Michael, do you know if these inks are available on a retail basis?

I have not seen those being sold under the Aratrum brand, but they make the inks mentioned above. They also state that they will custom make inks.

Reviving this topic out of curiosity if the inks were ever scanned. They're cheap at jetpens ($1.60 for 6 cartridges) so I'll probably throw some in on my next order, but I'd still be interested in seeing some samples, especially of the Sepia, Aubergine Purple, and the Blue-Black.

Do you know if the blue black ink made for the Kaweco pens has any content of iron and/or if it is an iron gall ink? I have been looking everywhere online including the manufacturer website and couldn't find out. I figured since you knew who the manufacturer was that may be you could be more familiar with the inks. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. This fact is important not just to me but for any ink related article for users who are into blue black type of inks.

Kind Regards, Jay
