Syringes

I would humbly offer a few pieces of advice regarding needles:

1. Please, please, please do NOT use needles that have been used on humans (I'm not sure about animals...). There are many dangerous diseases that are spread through needles.

2. Try to find blunts or grind down the sharp end of a needle, as the chance you will stick yourself is actually quite good. I'm sure you are telling yourself that you will be careful, and I can guarantee you that we say the same thing in health care, but that doesn't stop us from sticking ourselves with far more dangerous things than Noodler's.

3. Medical sharps have very specific disposal rules, and throwing them in the trash may result in significant problems. If you need to dispose of a sharp, talk to a pharmacist. A lot of pharmacies collect sharps for diabetic patients.

4. From state to state, needles may need a prescription. IV's always need a prescription.

5. All of these devices are designed for single use. So if you resue them, be especially vigilant for leaking seals and cracks.

You can get them individually and cheap from any feed store (as in horse/animal feed). They sell all gauges of both needles and syringes and won't hassle you about it. Just tell them what you want it for, so you don't get a huge gauge.

Hey everyone,

I'm sure this has been asked before...sorry.

I'm looking for a place online that sells cheap blunt syringes suitable for refilling carts. Preferably in quantity of one.

Also,

What stores in Canada, (ontario) would sell these?

Regards

Try industrial catalogues---they sell large-bore blunt syringes in batches of a dozen. I know you SAY you only want one, but you can have one for each color ink.

IMHO, better than syringes are plastic eye droppers. I have a few that I... borrowed... from a chem lab that work well. I've never tried to use them with a international cart, but they do work fine for filling up a Sheaffer Skrip cart. Less messy and more robust than a syringe.

Thanks for all the great ideas!

I'll try the pharmacy on the weekend. I'll be sure to bring my pen and explain things :P

And I will only be using sterile blunt syringes :P I don't think my pens need Hepatitis!

Picked mine up off the street, lying in the gutter. Literally. It's surely full of AIDS and meth, so I haven't gone into the tattoo biz yet, I'll wait until I rinse it out first. I'm told that iron gall ink kills pens, so it probably kills AIDS too. I'll give that a try ...

... and if not, I'll just put it back on the streetcorner where I found it!

NOT

That terrified me until I saw your NOT

I got mine in a pharmacy. Actually here, in Finland, I think they're handing those out for free. So that junkies can use without the fear of spreading of deceases in the country. I first just asked for a syringe with a needle (little experiment) and the pharmacist gave me a sympathetic look and said "you can get them at the register". Then I said that I need a fatter needle...

End result, after my explanation, was that she asked me how many do I need, and I bought one both. About one euro for the needle and 10cents for the syringe. - I'm so happy to live in a civilized country, or at least in one they don't over patronize citizens.

You know, you are absolutely right. Not the ones with the blunt ends, but the ones like we used to make in the lab - heat and draw out the tip then break it off and polish. I think you can buy eyedroppers with long thing tips.

I finally dared to ask for a syringe in a nearby pharmacy and they didn't even raise an eyebrow about it. i now have a 5 ml syringe with a rather short needle that could be thicker, but they didn't have any thicker ones, and paid just 21 cent (Euro). I already used the syringe to fill up a large cartridge for a Pelikan Pelikano (that I got today for 4 Euro) and it works great. I just hope I never lose the plastic cap for the needle, something about that tip of it makes me slightly uncomfortable.

PS: Note to myself. Don't listen to the Harry Potter audio books for too long anymore, in my head everything I type now is being read out loud by Stephen Fry, not too bad, but kinda weird.

I pick them up, needle and all, from the local drugstores for the price of a bus ride. Unfortunately, not blunt, but I guess you could grind down or snip off the sharp tip.
