Charlie Chaplin

I wonder if the piston cap might represent a button - a button to be pressed to start the machines that the movie (and the pen) highlight.

Alternatively, when viewed with the capped pen upright, the piston cap looks like a vase, a cup, or a grail - maybe it's telling you this is your grail pen.

If the Chaplin does not fit easily into your zippered case, consider this little beauty:

http://cgi.ebay.de/Montblanc-Leder-Stiftet...A1%7C240%3A1318

Montblanc contracted these hard crocodile leather cases from a high end Italian Leather House a few years ago. They are seldom found in Boutiques, though Darius scored a couple recently. They show up on eBay occasionally - this German listing ends in less than 12 hours.

They were originally available in black, bordeaux, and brown - in smooth finish and crocodile finish (crocodile hides scratches better) - and in single, double, and triple pen sizes.

I have the black crocodile cases in single and in double widths. My 149 or my Pope Julius 888 fits easily inside the single case.

This should easily house your Chaplin, and keep it safe for transport.

I don't like the zippered cases anyway - I worry that the zipper will scratch the pen surface.

Were they produced in brown? I'll have to look for one of those then.

I had not heard about the brown case either Darius, but look at the photo in the German eBay link I posted - looks like a nice medium brown.

I think that's a bordeaux. The picture might have been taken in yellowish lighting, without white balancing.

Once again congratulations!

By the way what number is your Chaplin? :) (mine is 77  )

Then you would like Caran d'Ache's 10:10 pen. It's good looking pen. Its cap is not skeletonised though.

As to 1010 it is a very nice pen but to my mind is heavely overpriced! $19,000 for a silver pen and around $150,000 for the gold (10 pirecesd produced!) I think it is over the top.

The only reason I have bought them is I had a very unexpected extra income from selling my secondary business -so I was too tempted to have one But when I gor the pens I was disappoited, the gold one doesn't have the $150K looks !!!

It looks like it's sitting on a piece of grid paper, which appears yellow.

I agree with Darius. Someone didn't know how to use their camera or to white balance their picture; the case is probably bordeaux.

Thank you again, Evegny. I do not have the Chaplin with me at the moment, but if I remember correctly it is a 73/88. I will check when I am at my residence to make sure. Have you decided on buying the last one available?

I like the 1010 too, but the price is really too much for the gold. If you bought both the silver and gold, though, does that not mean that you did not really think it was overpriced? I can only wonder at your collection -I hope you find the time to catalogue it and post photos for us to enjoy.

Congratulations and enjoy this beautiful pen everyday in the best of health.

Thank you for the great pictures. I wouldn't cringe as they have managed to awaken in many interest in this pen, including in me.

I had no idea this pen existed until now. It has firmley become my most favorite Mont Blanc above all else, absolutely amazing attention to detail and the ethos of the subject matter.

Also, as to what the end peice where the piston is is all about, to me it looks like the furrel of an expensive walking cane!

Wonderful photos of a special pen!

Even though it's none of my business, I'm glad you'll be using this pen as well as simply enjoying its aesthetics.

Wow! ::jealous:: What a beautiful pen! Sort of steampunk, which in my book is a good thing! Great piece!

Thank you all.

It is funny that I have been absent for probably years, and the day that I return I see that my Charlie Chaplin post at the top of the forum.

I hope all are well, and maybe I will see a few familiar faces (I do see that evgeny is still active, which gives me joy).

Cheers
