My new MB 136 with a M steel nib, filled with Pelikan Brilliant Black. Beautiful pen!

I am a complete newbie to Mont Blanc pens, but have wanted one for years.

For a wedding present, my wonderful new wife bought me the Frederic Chopin Edition Meisterstuck, and I am over the moon.

The M nib may be a little wide for my preference, but I will persevere for a while.

I have no idea what these 146, 149 numbers are people are talking about, so could do with a little help in that area.......?

I also got bought a bottle of Mont Blanc Blue/Black ink, which seems quite nice, although I'm keen to try out some different ones after Christmas.

Is there anything else I should know to get me started?

Yours is the 145, a converter/cartridge filler. The 146 and 149 are larger and have an integrated piston mechanism.

Congrats and welcome!

Probably my favorite ink of all time. My back up is a 1980s 146R medium nib filled with Pelikan blue black, a pretty nice shade of blue too, though darker. They'll be carried in my new old stock Diaries and Notes tan 2 pen case.

I just flushed the Louis I was using for the past 2 days. My writing session will start later today, so I have nothing inked yet. Not sure if it will be a MB at all.

1980's MB 149 (F) courtesy of the FPN marketplace and sold to me by a very courteous Barry Gabbay.

Split ebonite feed, 14k nib and plastic piston. Inked with Visconti eel turqoise - it was in my travel inkpot and slightly easier to clean out than Iroshizuku... that and it's a lovely colour and one of the safer Noodler inks.

Apologies for the shoddy photos - taken with an iPhone4
