Need help with Mont Blanc piston converter

I also posted this in the Mont Blanc section, but I thought it has a place here just because I am asking about the whole piston converter concept.

I have been looking at Mont Blanc pens on their website.

I have decided I want this one:

I am confused with the whole piston converter thing. All I know is that you can change it from either where you fill it with a cartridge or you can make it so you just fill it with a bottle of ink.

I would rather have it so I can just fill it up with a bottle, I don't want to have to keep buying tons of cartridges.

So what is this for?:

Does this make it so I can use cartridges or so I don't have to use cartridges?

Please just explain to me all about this.

Also if I had it set up where I can fill it up with a bottle, how do I do this? I'm pretty sure I stick the nib in the ink and twist something?

I am so confused!

Thanks for your help.

John

The second link shows a piston style converter. You place it in the pen instead of the cartridge, place the nib in a bottle of ink and twist the black end to activate the piston and draw up the ink. There are other Montblanc pens which do not use a cartridge or converter but have the piston built in and will only take ink from a bottle. these pens will hold a lot more ink than a converter or cartridge will hold.

Ok, thank you.

I guess that something with a piston built in would be something like this.

Yes, that one has the piston filler built in. You fill it by turning the knob at the end of the pen... nothing to take apart, nothing to insert.

An answer here, and this is discussed in several earlier threads as well.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.
