Going to San Francisco for 10 days on business; leaving on Tuesday the 3rd. Would appreciate any information on vintage pen shops, or just plain good pen stores in that area. Thanks in advance.

Atelier Gargoyle in San Francisco (by appt. only) -- mostly new

The only other stores I know of really only focus on new pens: Castle in the Air in Berkeley, Flax in San Francisco, and Bittner in Carmel are my favorites.

The Crocker Galleria, Westfield SF Shopping center, and Crane's at the Embarcadderro has fountain pens, though their selection isn't as diverse as the ones mentioned above.

Any antique stores in SF where he might find some vintage pens?

Check over at the Fedora Lounge, it's a site dealing with vintage clothing, styles and accessories.

The end of your 10 day trip puts you right into the LA Pen Show weekend. Can you extend your trip for that?

Nope, I got to fly right on down the road....tight schedule on this trip. Good idea though, and I appreciate all the information..

I know this thread is old but I will be in SF in July and was wondering if there are any shops that sell or let you test out vintage pens? I would like to try a few vintage flex pens out.

I am looking for an xf or xxf with flex to maybe an M or B. Quick snappy return and very smooth writer, not too wet. I think I'd need to try a few.

I've been looking at writing examples from waterman 52s (may be too flexy), the eversharps and esterbrook 9128 look great too.

Your best bet is to join a pen posse meeting, usually Sunday afternoons. Look in the meetings forum for previous meetings and future meeting. Some regulars can bring what you want to see.

I am unable to make the meetings but the folks there are wonderfully friendly.

I agree with the recommendation to attend a meeting of the SF Pen Posse. An additional option would be to contact Teri Morris of Peyton Street Pens in Santa Cruz; she sells vintage pens, including a great many with flexible nibs, and is a kind and helpful person.

I do not know is whether one can arrange to visit Teri's "shop," other than to attend the annual open house in April, but if you were making an excursion to Santa Cruz (more than an hour south of San Francisco but a popular seaside destination), it would not hurt to inquire.

Why can't you make the Posse meetings? We could find a time...

Pan Pacific Pen Club met today in Fremont. It was decided to meet next in July. No meeting place has been identified but Berkeley and Pacifica were suggested. Exact date to be determined by availability of a suitable local haunt.

Happy to call a Peter's even in your honor if you have dates now.

Oh yes! I just saw this shop online, great pen offerings!

I'm not sure I can get over there, I won't have a car but lovely website.
