I might be convinced to buy one of these after all... AHHH!!!! I'M BEING CONVERTED INTO A LAMY FOLLOWER!!!!!!!! :roflmho:

Seriously though, I cannot believe you did all these tests. I will not take my pens more than 2 feet from my desk, never mind DROP THEM OFF A TWO STORY BUILDING!!!!!!!

Well, at least this pen seems to be just about indestructible so I might get one soon.

Loving Mont Blanc and everything fountain pen!!!!!!!!

One of the few, the proud... 14 year-old FPN'ers!!!!!! ;)

MY FOUNTAIN PENS: Montblanc Boheme Bleu (M), Montblanc 145 (M), Waterman Phileas (M), Jinhao X450 (M), Parker Vector (M), Parker 15 (M), Sheaffer Cartridge Pen (M)

Now someone try it with a 149 go on...what no takers?

Then try it with an aeroplane - yes you know who you are - no comment?

Time to resurrect this topic once again. :clap1:

I contemplated about starting a fresh one, but really, this is the appropriate place to announce: I will have a L2k soon. Yey!

The looks, big ink reservoir - this thread - and other (normal) reviews are to blame/thank. I'm so amazed that I could bring myself to spend this much on a pen... didn't see it coming when I bought my first for ~20e.

Thank you all for your insights about this pen. I hope I'll get a good one.

You wish! Haha yeah my L2K is still going strong - used it for my last set of exams - including all of the notes! Wrote a good few hundred pages over a week or so - no worries at all! It might be replaced soon as my daily user by the Pilot VP I have coming in the mail soon... we'll see how good the VP is; and no, I'm not testing that, either :D

How does the Lamy 2000 fare as far as its locking mechanism for the cap is concerned? It has small metal fins to clip the cap in place when closed. Does it get worn out after a few years of use? It would be a mess if a pen is uncapped in the shirt pocket.

Fine job on your review! I like to give my pens the white water rapid test to check all the seals and threads on my pens for leakage.

OK, I am on the second floor while reading this thread. I’m surrounded by fountain pens. All I would have to do is pick one up, reach out the open window and drop it onto the patio.

But which one!

Is it going to be the cheap Chinese pen that never worked properly from day one? The Sheaffer Lady that was dirt cheap from eBay and has never worked. The Targa that leaks so badly that it can empty it’s self overnight.

Perhaps the pen I have owned the longest, a Waterman that survived being driven over by a car I a car park. No, it has already suffered enough.

Which of your pens would you throw out of a second floor window

'vans4444' Which of your pens would you throw out of a second floor window

though they wrote ok, and looked ok-the leaky Vectors that spoiled the bottoms of my expensive leather purses.. back when I had a couple of nice leather purses.. wish I had thought to hurl them-the Vectors-off the balcony.. they were just tossed into the garbahge.

It would have to be a black Sheaffer Snorkel. More trouble than it is worth. It writes beautifully but is needlessly complex.

I think my 2000 is the only one I'd dare throw off a building, even though it's my favey fave pen right now- it's the only one that would survive the fall!

Now it's my turn to gush about this pen: If anyone's on the fence about getting one, just do it, they're fantastic pens. Pengallery (no affiliation) is the inexpensive place to get one- around $104 shipped to the US, and you can even get the nibs that aren't available on this side of the pond- OM OB and a BB. I'm getting my second one there- an OM. If there's something wrong with your L2K when you get it, just send it back for a replacement! Well worth the trouble...

I'm shocked and horrified! and feel like I should report you to child welfare or something!

Apart from taking it to Austria, that was jolly decent of you.

you can never get it wrong, because you can never get it done!

I did once throw a Parker Vector from a second story window and killed somebody with it: I'd just been to see Daredevil. Stopping at the barber's to get my head shaved after the film and affecting an Irish accent was probably a mistake...

Here's just how nasty some of these abuse tests can get:

<b>BEFORE</b>

<img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3018/2647653135_154a128a36.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<b>AFTER</b>

<img src="http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/1403/fenixt1evalpostcar2tt4.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Of course, the L2K is made of a fiberglass/plastic material. The Fenix T1 shown above is made of tough metal. <img src="https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I'm now tempted to get a beater Rotring 600 and run it through some abuse tests. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Fenix! A wonderful and powerful China made flashlight. I bought mine in Thailand's MBK.

It is just so bright and powerful, I can't believe Maglight is in business.

So, what are the chances of my Lamy 2000 surviving living in my pocket with a multitool, keys, and the occasional flashlight? I have to admit I am still reticent to try. Not sure if it's just the fact that it feels so lightweight or what, but I'm scared. :-)

It'll survive quite well actually.

I used to have my Lamy 2000 in the same pocket as loose change and keys all the time. It's slightly scratched and has microdents all over the place but is still fully functional thumbup.gif

I wish i had the money to drop even one of my low-end 10 USD Hero's off of a 2 story building :( much less a Lamy 2k. but nice review. PS dont take pens with really bad feeds on to airplanes. i took a fully loaded Dikawen (a generic Japanese brand) on an airplane and i was writing to pass the time then suddenly SPLAT it exploded onto the paper. :bonk:
