Fred you can be quite a tease and thank you Jeen for the pic.

At first sight, the clip looks terrific (!), but the rest of the design hints at modest inspiration. I do have a negative bias towards these modern designs, but this fountain pen looks to me like an ACME interpretation of the Pelikan Majesty.

I wonder if Pelikan could sue MB for design copyright infringement.

MB is commendable for coming up with new designs and motoring their evolution, but this pens looks neither new nor refined.

PS I wonder if Homer Simpson is not on their to do list of POA.

Many thanks for the picture; I was waiting for this!

I don't like it from what I've seen so far - it just does not look like a MB. Maybe I need to see it in person.

I kind of like it, but unless the price comes down at least a grand, it's not on my list of must haves. Now if they'd made it a cobalt blue or teal green like old tiles, I'd've been more strongly drawn to it. I still find myself peering into the blue/green enamel on my Visconti Romanica just for the color contrast with the overlay.

I'm with Darius - what I can see from the small photo looks good.

Of course, I am interpolating what the photo does not resolve, so an up close and personal inspection may be different.

I like the idea of a mosaic pattern on the barrel and cap - how that pattern comes across up close will likely make or break the deal for most buyers.

I also wonder whether the sterling silver is overplated with platinum or rhodium to prevent tarnishing.

Now if we can just convince Montblanc to stop using dull white plastic stars on these $2500+ pens...

I don't think we can say much from the picture. I have a feeling we will 'feel' differently in either direction once more quality pictures are available. That being said, I wonder what its 888 version will look like as well. I would like to own a pen that has a design referencing the Arabic culture

Visconti is supposed to come out with a "Mecca" and a "Medina" soon according to their rep. I'm waiting to see how the designers handled it.

I would have removed at least the center band.

I think the centre band is done better than last time. On the Francois, it was on the cap, which made the cap look short. Alway reminded me of a person wearing a high neck collar.

Okay, I'm already only really budgeting for the WE "Mann", but indicators to me are that MB has not yet detected a downturn in world economy, and if they did, they don't care. Not a great pen design, and Not a great price.

Too bad, because I think MB is better than this.

It does lower my expectation for the "Mann" Writer's Edition, however. But MY expectations won't lower the price either.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Thank a Veteran.

Well Humphrey's new photos did not add to my desire for this pen. I was previously happy to give this design the benefit of the doubt - low resolution small scale photo and all.

The triangular mosaic looks more like foil rather than inlaid sterling silver. Looks like wrapping paper from a sleezy 1970's disco (if sleezy 1970s discos sold wrapping paper). It was, I think, supposed to suggest inlaid mosaic tiles. It doesn't.

I'll still look forward to seeing this on the pen show circuit. But right now, I'm more inclined to buy Count von Faber-Castell's horsehair pen.

**sigh**

Maybe the 888 will be more inspiring.

Well don't give up on it yet, like I said..my pics aren't the greatest, the shine was too much and my digital camera just couldn't grab a good focus on it.

Seriously, it is one of those pens that needs to be seen, pictures just don't do it justice.

As for the 888, still haven't seen any pics of it yet, so I have no idea on it's final design appearance.

I like the engraving on the band and nib. But I think that I have to see this pen to appretiate the depth of the material. I'm expecting it to be like the StarWalker cool blue or the Verne. From the pictures, you know there's something lying under the lacquer, but you have to hold the pen to appreciate it.

Humphrey351,

Oh man...that's a gorgeous pen! You must have a very low serial number in it right?

Congratulations!

Okay, time for the who puts the hyphen in anal-retentive comment - the lack of symmetry on the nib decoration bothers me. And the flowing lines of the decoration on the band somewhat clash with the geometric pattern on the barrel. I'd have to see this one in person - and the odds of that happening aren't good given my current locale.
