Hi Christoff,

thanks for posting the French site with your pictures on, some fabulous pictures there.  Still trying to produce reasonable pictures myself but it is very hit and miss.

The issue of copyright is one that makes me very cross 🤬 It's fun to do your own stuff, but if you don't have the skills Ask the copyright holder and if they say yes acknowledge them/  It really isn't difficult.  But as you say there are too many people on the web who just take stuff and post it as if it is their own. 😤

Hi Anne-Sophie,

I've taken a picture of three Pink Safaris to illustrate the different caps 🙂  Hope this helps.

Very nice! Thank you so much!

I hate to say that, but this site shows stolen pictures from allover the web (inclusive mines).

Years ago, I started a thread on french stylo-plume.org with exactly the same topic:

Do you actually claim copyright (c) of your photos on your website?

He doesn't have to. Copyright is national law. Each country has its own regulations. Germany doesn't know "copyright" for example. The ©-mark is of no relevance. But there is a law called "Urheberrecht" which regulates ownership and usage rights of pictures and other works. The creator holds this right once the work is created. He doesn't have to leave a mark or a name. All he needs to do is to prove his ownership as the originator if he decides to sue someone for violations.

So, if christof wants to sue the blog he would have to show the court his RAWs or unedited pictures. I don't know how the Swiss do it.

@Anne-Sophie @christof

Hi Anne-Sophie - thank you for having a look at Christof’s and my efforts to bring the various Lamy Safari fountain pens together into a table.

Christof - so sorry that I’ve not had the time to update the table with you. In some ways I wonder if it might be better to create a Wikipedia page on this so that anyone can update it, and also to preserve accessibility instead of various versions of the file becoming buried in this thread. Of course it all comes down to time availability and neither of us have much of that.

One day… 😊

As a minor update for those here who are interested in recent releases and Safari collaborations:

The 2021 special edition reissues of Savanna/Terrarot have the standard versions that you can find anywhere but they have also been released as limited editions too. These are hard to find but we’re official Lamy China releases several months back as serial numbered sets of matching-numbered FP/RB/BP. The finials were upgraded as were the nibs.

There have also been several highly limited editions releases recently including serial numbered FPs released firstly in Yokohama only, and then released by central Lamy Japan. These are a Japanese Anime artist collaboration with Lamy (Katsura Hoshino).

There has been a beautiful FP released only in Taiwan and I think only 100 were produced - this version is white and covered in red stars as a constellation.

There is a very recent Anime type release in Japan as a series of, I believe, only 100 sets of an Umbra and a Glossy White with matching geometric designs as a collaboration with D.Gray-Man.

There was a triplet pen set of Safari FPs released also in Japan in collaboration with Sakiko Fujimoto.

Lotteon in Korea released a pair of special editions too, one in red and one in white. Not particularly interesting because the pens themselves were not uniquely stamped - they only had ornamental decorations like the Line series.

Oh - and an interesting release was by Line recently. They sent out box sets only to their employees of Umbra Safaris with unique stamps celebrating the 10 year Line Anniversary. They are accompanied by a really heavy gold coloured bear (called “Brown”) that has a weight inside.

I could go on…there are some others…..! A couple of interesting releases are due in China next month of Glossy White - one with a pink clip and one with a powder blue clip - they look really nice.

Forgive me but presently no time to organise it all in any particular order…🙏🏼

I’ve recently started up an Instagram account (the handle is: Lamy.Safari)where I’m hoping to document some of my collection photographically when I find moments spare. Won’t be anywhere near as beautiful as Christof’s photos but hopefully will suffice.

Happy collecting! 😊

So many limited editions of the Safari pen. It is very hard and expensive effort to have a complete collection of all of them. It seems that the main market for the Safaris now is in Asia.😄

My original interest and the goal of my first table was merely to be able to assign all colors to their year of appearance. Nobody could foresee that in the last years this confusing number of special editions would appear. (And to be quite honest, I don't care either).

Anyway Chris (Uffuffa) is right, and documenting all these variants is beyond the scope of my list. I'm definitely out of it....

(Actually I am no longer active in this forum anyway 😂)

Good luck!

@jchch1950

Yes - it’s become very difficult to collect the Safari comprehensively. Unfortunately it seems the US/European markets are of less interest now to Lamy. In China a standard Safari costs about RMB350, which is around USD50-55… may explain why! I think it is more fun to collect the core colours and then supplement with any special releases that tickle one’s fancy. Being purist and chasing every edition will undoubtably lead to disappointment with the number of releases and the tiny runs of only about 100 sets in some cases.

@christof Pity that the forum has lost your activity. But I agree with you that the crescendoing releases have swelled beyond the original intention of the table. It was a pleasure contributing to it though and hopefully the last version remains a useful resource for collectors as it’s pretty comprehensive for the time of its “publication” date

Thank you so very much Christof for your invaluable help. I have to admit that without your and Chris wonderful table, I am at a loss when I have to remember all the historical editions.

Since it is on an external server, would you mind if I use the data, as in date of production, color, matter or glossy, etc.., in my reference post?

I will not copy the table format, nor the cute giraffe and will mention both you and Chris, as the creators of the table, that inspired my reference post.

I have been given permission by Christof to use your table reference for the data it contains.

Chris do you agree with sharing the data as well?

since I was able to complete my collection lately, I made another overview of all the existing colors, as a reference and just for fun.

Interesting photo.  I like how you've sorted them by color.

But I'm not seeing the 2021 "White and Red".... B)

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."
