Of the new Conklin crescent fillers, I'm naturally most drawn to this one:

I have heard too many bad things about Conklin rliability to keep me away from their pens and its a shame as its a parent that their pens are very pretty.

Also heard there customer service is bad, what a miss ti this intereting company.

This pen is gorgeous and putting reliability aside my only "problen" with this pen is that its a C/C filler (QM2 you knew I will say that right?)

Enjoy the pen.

Respect to all

I have had great luck with modern Conklins. Both Gliders I have owned have had steel nibs and the flow has been generous and satisfying using the converters that came with the pens. I am looking forward to more Conklin acquisitions. I think they are a good buy for my money.

You mean the Conklin Antique? Because of late we were discussing the crescent fillers.

QM2, what ink did you use for your writing sample please?

It was a custom Private Reserve mix of Blue Suede + Gray Flannel. If you like the colour, you may want to try Private Reserve Ebony Green or Noodler's Sequoia -- they look similar!

Edited to Add: I also had this pen filled with Aurora Black, and the flow was the same.

A steel nib version in all the colours is now available on super clearance for $60 !!

As some may know, Conklin has officially announced that it is going out of business -- which probably accounts for these dramatic discounts. So if these pens appeal to you, grab them while you can!

No affiliation,

Let me think......I have had several modern Duragraphs that did not write, and kept taking them back for a replacement. I've had Gliders and Nozacs, an Antiqua, the new Cresent. All were taken back for replacements, I presently have a stunning white Nozac which doesn't write; neither does an Orange swirl nozac, and an orange Glider. They are all lying unused, because they don't work. I sent 3 pens for repair to the Conklin Junk Shop in NJ; the orange nozac (14K F nib) came back with a F STEEL nib, and the other 2 never came back at all, despite phone calls, registered letters, and a report to the BBB in NJ. Also was given VERY nasty attitudes by the then-Conklin owner, RR. The joke was going around that he receives inoperasble pens in the mail and just throws them over his shoulder, and they are never seen again. They were beautiful pens---absolutely gorgeous---and never worked well, if at all. He went out of business, then started selling Mabie Todd(more (bleep)) and Chilton. He went out of business again in 2010. In 2008 or 09, Yafa bought the Conklin name, and are issuing some of the old Conklin pens. I have a yellow Herringbone in my pocket now. They all write, straight out of the box. Look for the crescent breather hole---the round breather holes are NOS from the New Jersey Junk Emporium

He kept a brand new LE I sent in for simple nib swap. Fortunately for me, unfortunately for the dealer, they had it picked up and shipped directly from my house to him, so Amex was able to eventually refund my money. Felt bad for the shop, but I couldn't afford to lose the price of an LE. How hard could it have been for him to swap an M for a B? :gaah: Experienced the same abuse and lies. Anyone behaving that way DESERVES to go out of business. Just sorry he took some good company names with him.

I ordered the Black Conklin Crescent a month or so ago, and of course it didn't write out of the box. Its waiting on a trip to a nibmeister. This is my second Conklin; I bought the first one a Pink Mark Twain Signature when I started learning about FPs. It gave me trouble from the start too. Just be prepared and add the cost of nib tuning into the pen when you buy it.

The plating on my Glider fell off while the pen sat in my pen box!

"Inconsistent" is the kindest descriptor I can think of for its ink flow.

No more modern Conklins for me.
