Yes, it's genuine.

Montblanc made these for the Arab states, because the iconic star logo was felt by some to be too similar to a Jewish Star of David.

Of course, the MB Star logo was never designed to represent the Star of David (or any other star). The logo was supposed to represent the snow capped peak of Mont Blanc at 4,810 meters.

I believe all contemporary Montblanc products now carry the same traditional six pointed star logo.

Fascinating...and now that you mention it..wasn't there a thread here recently that mentions this? I don't recall there being a photo though.

hmmm...do think there are more than a few of these around? I mean I doubt its rare in the Arab countries but maybe hard to come by here or on the Bay?

Thanks for the info

Yes, there was a recent thread about Montblancs during WWII and whether the company made any pens with swastika logos instead of the MB Star. The consensus was that no swastika pens were ever made by Montblanc, though the pen you found with the triangular logo was mentioned in the thread.

I'm not really a collector, so I cannot speak to just how rare these are now. I have never seen one. Rare or just uncommon, it seems to be a great price for a working 146.

What I find amusing is that the seller is located in Israel, the one middle eastern country where the logo substitution would have less significance.

I mentioned last week about the triangle in lieu of the snowcap in a thread about MBs with National Socialist emblems. The pen I saw it on was a 149.

Good luck with that! Your best bet would be to delete the link...

Nice try - perhaps you should edit your first post to delete the ebay link and just substitute a nice description of the cap.

Nothing to see here folks - move along quietly now. Show's over.

Interesting.

A pen made to Arab countries sold in Israel and in the city of Haifa.

I was born, raised and lived in Haifa most of my life.

I really would love to own this pen.

I think this could be such a cool addition to my MB collection/family but alas I must focus on my need for more WE pens.

Help I am addicted :bunny01:

Respect to all

Thank you a lot for sharing this information.

I have heard the stories about those pens and I have seen older (c. 1950's/60's) pens for export without any star but I have never seen such a modern-time pen with the differen cap-dome.

Those pictures will be saved in my MB archive.

I wonder if this pen will end up with a FPN person :)

It's the first time for me to see this kind of cap top. I have heard of them. Although the stories I've heard were about a white circle, not a triangle. Has anyone else heard of white circle tops, or was I misinformed? If the circle one does exists, it makes me think of how many alternative versions are actually out there.

Wow Darius, that's incredible, you being in Kuwait and not ever seeing that cap design...this is making this pen very interesting..

I know what you mean. These pens were made primarily for the Saudi market as far as I know, maybe other countries in the region, but they were definitely not offered in Kuwait (not through authorised channels anyway). I think these pens ceased production in the 80s, possibly early 90s. I haven't been to Saudi except once when I was driving through to Bahrain and didn't stop at any major city. If I do though, I would definitely look for these. Maybe some store has old stocks of MB with these kind of cap tops.

  • 2 weeks later...

The seller told me a day or two ago that the pen was originally purchased in Jordan, and 'migrated' to Israel. Very pleasant person, and she said she had a number of inquiries about this pen from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
