Faber-Castell Ambition

the Ambition's width looks nice. Is it, in your opinion, broader in comparison with the Fines of other brands as WillSW quoted in the first post?

In my opinion, yes. I would class it as about half way to Medium, if that makes sense - it doesn't FEEL too fine. One reason I didn't answer your post quicker is so I can show you the relative thicknesses in my last post. The two Parker 88s are marked M, but they've got a bit broader with twenty years' use, so although the Ambition's line is noticably finer you might want to bear in mind that the 88s are about M-and-a-half now! It's also a well balanced pen, I haven't had any feeling that it's too fine (digging into paper etc). I still need to get it used to me, or me to it, so a bit more patience to go.

I think that I am heading to the Fine choice, finally.

Not really, I'd estimate the line width as 0.4mm, but that's measuring by eye and with a ruler so not very accurate. I normally use Medium and this pen in Fine is good for me.

I was thinking to get a 0.5mm width. So thats very close to it.

I have one of these that I keep full of red ink for editing work. Unfortunately, my workplace supplies us only with the lousiest of legal pads made of very thin paper. I've noticed that the Ambition seems to occasionally get gummed up, as if the nib is tearing off small fibers and they get stuck in the tip of the feed. I haven't noticed this issue with any of my other pens (that I write on the same paper with).

 

By the way, the ink is Visconti Burgundy. I have never used that ink in any other pen, so I suppose that could be the issue as well...

 

Has anyone else had this problem with his or her Ambition?

The cap should only say: Faber-Castell since 1761. There is no address on mine. The nib is a fine and quite a bit finer than most German fines. I don't know what you have but you should contact Faber-Castell. I have never seen a nib like you photographed on an Ambition. Faber-Castell use JoWo nibs and Peter Bock on GvFC as far as I know.

The nib in the review is not like any Faber Castell nib I have seen on any Ambition.Did you get the pen from an authorised dealer.
