Never to be confused with the Obfuscatium and Bolognium traces found in the precious resin of certain other makers pens... ;)

Oops, you're mistaken -- it's actually marketing manurium with some consumer gullibilium mixed in. Some careful mass spectrometry work has shown that the mixture varies all over the map, but these two elements are always present.

40% cobalt

20% Chromium

15% nickel

15% iron

7% molybdemum

2% magnesium

Traces of beryllium and carbon

If the nib glows in the dark, you know you got the extra-special series with Co-60.

Thank you, men.

I have the "F" nib from Hero pen. Can I install this nib instead of the original "M" Parker-51 nib? Are they identical?

A fine Hero nib will write more like an extra fine....

Also I believe that the Hero nib is not an exact swap for the 51 nib... I don't believe it will work..

Thank you, I suspect this.

Is there scheme of the Parker 51 Aero-metric somewhere in the Internet? I'm going to disassemble it, but I don't know how to dismantle the Aero-metric filler.

There is absolutely no need to remove the cage on the filler UNLESS you have to replace the sac....

In fact unless you have to replace the nib there really is no reason to remove the hood.... unless the collector is totally clogged with dried ink or the breather tube needs replacement.

Even under adverse conditions a 51 Aero can generally be cleaned using technical pen cleaner (I use Rapido-eze). This stuff will dissolve India ink and does a wonderful job dissolving old ink in a 51 collector, nib and feed.... it will also remove the old ink in the pliglass sac....

Fill and flush the pen a couple of time with the technical pen cleaner then let it sit overnight in the stuff... the next day fill and flush with cool water until it runs clear....

As a restorer, I have seen more than my share of pens come across my work bench because someone decided to take them apart when they did not need it...

I am not saying you can not do it... BUT, DON'T fix what ain't broken

You're absolutely right.

I just want to learn to assemble/disassemble the Parker 51, it's for my website. For example I've disassembled the Vacumatic nib unit and discribed it in special article: http://www.parkerpens.ru/restore/nib-unit-repair.html. There is no information about such things in Russia in Russian. In fact only my little website.

AHHH... I now understand....

Just looked at the site... looks good so far... I see Richard gave you permission to use his drawings of filling mechanisms.....

The pictures are well done and clear....

I am assuming you already know how to remove the hood of a 51 (same as for Vac fill), just remember that when you remove the collector, there is a long breather tube that is fragile...

As for removing the cage around the pliglass sac.... most of the ones I have had to do were press fit... just wiggle them loose... BUT CAREFULLY... Sometimes a little heat works to help you along

However, some are screwed on the section.... I don't recall when this was done, early or late....

That is all there is to taking apart the filler unit on an Aero.... I do recommend doing this step BEFORE removing the hood as you will have a bit more on the front end to hold on to.
