Just ordered a bottle! Really looking forward to it. As for the scans this is a great looking purple!

Btw: Greenman508 on ebay has it available too (I ordered there).

The scans remind me a lot of CdA Storm, though it may be a little lighter - anyone got both and want to do a comparison in the same pen?

I might be able to do this myself once my bottle of Storm comes in...

I just got this ink in the mail today! I'm very happy with the color and having a purple I can use to grade. Great initiative, kookychick & FPNers!

It really stained my plastic dip pen; I've used this pen to test Noodler's Red/black and Hunter green too, but this didn't happen. I purchased it from isellpens and Todd has a note about this on his site.

So, two questions:

I just wonder what is the experience of those of you who have been using the ink for a longer amount of time? I'm thinking about putting it in my Hero 892, which has a semi-hooded gold nib and black feed/grip area, but a permanent converter. Good idea? Bad idea?

Would diluting the ink also help make it less prone to staining?

Thanks! arz

Try and washing the plastic dip pen off with a dilute bleach solution. I use Fantastik w/Bleach often for such jobs.

I've got my bottle and definitely like the color, not at all chalky and it does have pretty decent shading for a color this dark.

The only negatives so far:

The nib creep is extreme, even for a Noodler's. In the VP I'm using, the whole nib is purple.

The nib dries out quicker then any of my other Noodler's, though I haven't tested that in other pens.

Stinky. I can smell the ink on the nib from six inches away and having the bottle open is... unpleasant...

I can live with the low points, just wanted to point out that there are a few. I love Noodler's inks and this one will most likely be in constant use, so far this is the only non-black bulletproof I actually like.

Here is a side-by-side scan of La Reine Mauve and Baystate Concord Grape. The bottom swipes are with a Q-tip. Interestingly, I have not had any problems with nib creep, or stinkiness, with my bottle of Reine Mauve.

Cheers!

Finally he said, "Well, the hours are good..."

..."So the hours are pretty good then?" [Ford] resumed.

The Vogon stared down at him as sluggish thoughts moiled around in the murky depths.

"Yeah," he said, "but now you come to mention it, most of the actual minutes are pretty lousy."

Great scan! Thanks, ccajackson! :)

I also haven't had a problem with stinkiness (this is no Rachmaninov, which I also love and ALWAYS have a pen inked with, but has a strong odor!). I've had a little bit of nib creep with my Sensa Meridian, but far less than Legal Lapis or Polar Blue. I have a triangular strip in the middle 1/3 of my nib. It doesn't drip onto the section or inside the cap.

I have found that this ink is a little drier than The Violet Vote/Iraqi Indigo, for example. If I pause a really long time, it takes a stroke or two to get it started again. However, then it flows beautifully for quite a while (and doesn't gush, like some inks). And even leaving it for a few days in the pen doesn't require water to get it started or anything--just a quick stroke or two, and it's off to the races! :)

Inks currently in pens: Noodler's La Reine Mauve, Rachmaninov, Prime of the Commons Blue-Black, Naval Orange, MN Whaleman's Sepia, Verdun Green, Majestic Orange; J. Herbin Violette Pensée, Rose Cyclamen, Orange Indien

The heavy creep could have to do with VP clicking. Most Noodler's will creep pretty mightily in a Vanishing Point but what I'm seeing borders on spectacular.

What one person perceives as stinky, another may not. I expect nibs to have a little smell on 'em, but I can definitely smell it a good distance away from the pen, becoming more pronounced whilst writing; I smoked for 20ish years, my nose is not the most sensitive.

I've noticed this with Noodler's Pasternak. It has a strong, industrial fragrance I can smell when I write with my Falcon, which doesn't even have an exposed external feed. Fortunately, I don't find the smell offensive -- I'm weird, I guess.

I'm wondering if La Reine Mauve has the same smell. I'll find out when I get my bottle in a week or two.

The worst for stink is Noodler's Kuprin. I've stopped using it in meetings. Compared to it, La Reine Mauve doesn't smell much at all.

I love this La Reine Mauve color.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

Got mine and have been playing with it for several days in a Sailor 1911M med. It's a darker purple than Pelikan 4001 violet, which I consider a purple's purple. Nice wet flow. Drys very fast and doesn't bleed though junk paper. We use a cheap recycled copy paper at work. The very slightest of feathering. When I sign and write delivery instructions on multiple pages, it drys so fast I am not getting any smearing, or blotting on the backs of top copies.
