feiye,

I have exactly the same blue Miya Argento, and I too feel that it is my pen of choice - I love it! Great review!

Thanks for the review also. I had a chance of handling one of the Miya's, a yellow one. It felt really nice, though a bit too stubby for my taste. But the yellow resin was a real looker. In the end I settled for a Sailor PG, which is nowhere near the same in the looks department.

Between yours and Deirdre's pens, I'm rethinking my whole kneejerk black-pen aesthetic.

Also, I might have to copy your handwriting. It's beautiful!

Shyam,

Thank you! I'm glad that others are enjoying their Miya/Miya Argentos :) I believe they have been overlooked!

The Miyas are all celluloid, not resin, but I agree - the Yellow never fails to make me smile when I look at it. It's such a cheerful colour!

Thank you Petra! The ink is actually just Waterman Blue-Black, an ink I had never really warmed to but it does seem to photograph quite well for some reason :)

Haha, I blame Deirdre too when it comes to colourful pens! When I first joined FPN, I posted a picture of my pen collection and it was a primarily Black and White affair. Now I've got most colours of the rainbow.

I love this pen! The color is superb. The cap design looks unique, especially with the barrel color inlay band--nice! :puddle: Uh... sorry about that [wipe, wipe]. ;) Feiye, you certainly show of the nib wonderfully. Awesome handwriting. The nib appears to have a decent amount of flex for a modern day pen.

Montegrappa features a really nice flash presentation on the Miya Argento, allowing you to zoom in to see the detail at a very deep magnification. :)

The only caveat is that it is a C/C filler... disappointing for that price. But still, it is a thing of beauty. The Miya Argento may be my first major pen acquisition sometime in 2009. :)

Wow, what an absolutely strikingly beautiful pen! Thank you so much for the pics, the review, and the cool handwriting sample. We should all have such stunning handwriting skills. B)

As an admirer of all things hunter green, forest green, emerald green, and turquoise green, LOL, this pen has just vaulted to the top of my short list for '09.

Your thoughtful and informative review is much very appreciated. Thanks again.

Best regards,

CPW

Feiye,

How many Montegrappa pens do you have?

Thank you Rick, I'm glad you enjoyed the review. You'd better grab this pen soon though - it's now a discontinued model.

Feiye,

How many Montegrappa pens do you have?

At one time, too many (around 40 I believe) I think I'm down to 6 though. Every one of them a standout writer.

:happyberet: Beautiful handwriting with a beautiful FP.

Thank you for the kind words Henrico :) the pen was only too happy to show off

Ha! My work here is done.

I've got to say, the Turquoise celluloid from Montegrappa is stunning.

40 Montegrappas! Wow! When I first began collecting pens, I fell in love with two brands, Dupont and Montegrappa. I have always been intrigued by the fact that so few collectors focus on these two brands.

How do you keep the silver from tarnishing on your Montegrappas?

Great review. The photo of the hand writing is great. I attempted to buy this pen several years ago. I ended up with the Blue Miya instead (verbal miscommunication), it was got me completely hooked on Montegrappa, still my favorite pen company for the reasons you state. I have several 1930's and Privledge... These are the pens of choice when going out, business or please. Or to spend some time with my journal. Thanks, JD

Do you have both (Mya and 1930 Extra)? How they compare?

I have both. The pens have the Montegrappa look and feel. I believe the Extra is worthy of it's additional price. Same nib, piston filling, and it works like you would think a really good filler should (very unlike the old style OMAS that feels cheap), the grip is a little larger and very slightly flared at the end. A touch that is perfect to help center your fingers. I find the Miya to slip up if my hands are at al sweaty and for some reason I am holding the pen too hard. All this makes the Extra a much better pen for me. Expensive, but it is both a pen and a work of art. I have four.

After a multi year search I found three pen companies that product pens well above the standards of the rest: Montegrappa, Nakaya, and old style OMAS. And an honorable mention to Dupont... but I have to have the nib drilled to get appropriate flow.

How do you keep the silver from tarnishing on your Montegrappas?

The majority of my Western pens are now Montegrappa and Dupont, I absolutely love these two brands :)

I give the silver a polish about once every 6 months and it's right as rain. I keep mine in a pen case that somehow reduces the tarnishing...I'm not actually sure how or why :)

JD:

Glad you enjoyed the review. I have both Miya and Extra - I prefer the celluloid on the Extra 1930 but the Miya is more convenient (being able to take the cap off in one and a half turns is so handy). I like the pregnant bulge in the Miya but love the oversize nib on the Extra. In general I'\ve had less problems with Miya nibs than I have Extra but both are as you've said, works of art.

Absolutely beautiful! :notworthy1: This pen is one of my favorites right now. Its so tasteful and classic. Like your handwriting.

If you ever decide to get rid of it, please let me know. I could not stomach the MSRP on it. :puddle:

I just must pick up this review again - this is my second comment on it. It is so beautiful and well written. Maybe this review could be one of the "Pinned"? I really like it.
