Looking for some info and a value for this pen. Waterman Man 100 in sterling silver. Barrel, cap, and section are all hallmarked and the cap has what appears to be a serial number (064xx). Am I correct that this is an earlier example since it has the silver section?

Not in bad condition, Medium nib, but there is some corrosion and plating loss on the gold front of the section.

Any help on a reasonable value appreciated, as well as info on scarcity, etc.

Thanks in advance,

Dennis B

New, it retailed for about 600.00 (20-25 years ago). Not sure what it is going for now, but I know a satrap who would love to buy one, so...

What a beauty...and rare one too. Unfortunately the Le Man models are prone to plating problems. Maybe you can find someone here that is able to repair that, it may prove worth it, either foe keeping or reselling. I have no idea of what that pen may go for, but some others that sell them professionally and read this forum ill, I'm sure.

Nice find.

A couple months ago, I was going to bid on a 100 with some plating loss on the nib section.

Before doing so, I did some checking. Even though most 100/200's have a lifetime warranty

(I think 1994 was the date they stopped that) unless you have the original purchase paperwork

according to what Waterman told me, you are S.O.L. so far as warranty work on the nib goes.

I don't recall his name, but I found a repairer/restorer here on FPN that does replating. It

would have been cheaper according to his price list to get a whole new nib section. Lewertowski

had them for I think $110 and Waterman wanted (and had them) for $116 as I recall.

That is of course, if the unplated area is that big of a concern to you.

The Waterman Man 100 came in three 'all silver' versions: this one, of 5000 pieces in godron style produced between 1985 and (I believe) 1988 or 1989, a smooth 'satin' silver version produced in 1983 and the Etoile, produced as 1000 numbered pieces in 1993. My personal preference is for the godron style.

If you are still looking for an idea on value, there is one listed on Ebay.

Currently at EUR 253, it still has another day to go before the listing ends.

Sterling Man 100

G. (owner of the 5 1/2" 100 sterling B.P - F.P still sought).

I would expect the final price to hit EUR 600, easily. There is also an Etoile for sale, from an Italian seller; that should hit EUR 900 or maybe more. Both are in F nib, and, based on my experience of Man 100 nibs, their F nibs are very much on the finer side of fine.

Good pens if you have deep pockets!

A look at the nib could give some clues as to age or possibly replacement. The nib pictured in the lead post has a globe inscribed on it. Earlier Man 100 nibs lacked the globe, although they were bi-colored.

The sterling silver man 100s in pristine condition are generally in the 450€-500€ range, I don't own any of them because I am not interested in silver pens but for the one who wants a better built pen than the edson in silver and with a lifetime durability and first class nib, it is the pen to have.

Hello,

I found your forum through a Google search as we have one of these pens. It's been used once and has been kept boxed in pristine condition.

I won it in a competition many years ago and thought I would always keep it as an investment for my family, to be passed on from generation to generation.

Time has moved on and I am wondering if it is in fact worth holding on to as it is not being used and if we would be better off selling it.

I am not an expert in this area so would appreciate your advice.

- Is this something that will become more valuable in time or is it not rare enough?

- If we decide to sell, how should we go about this? where would be the best place?

It is not quite the same as the one above and has a black plastic top as per this one on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WATERMAN-Le-Man-100-Sterling-Silver-Striped-Fountain-Pen-M-nib-/130663763354?_trksid=m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D30%26pmod%3D130566616535%26ps%3D50#ht_4665wt_905

Many thanks for your help in advance.

The Man 100 was available in different styles. The 'white metal' as it was described in some catalogues, is solid silver and should be stamped as such. They were offered in either the 3 main parts silver or a combo of plastic and silver. The fluted pattern was/is termed Godron. They are not rare and appear on the bay regularly. In good, boxed condition, they sell for a fairly high price...up to £400 in the UK. You may see them at much higher prices but those are always for sale.

If it had been used then stored I would check that it is free from old ink before offering it for sale. A good soaking in warm water for a while and blowing through should tell you if all is well. Or at least notify viewers it has been stored for many years in that condition.

After 30 posts I believe you can then use the Classifieds on FPN to advertise it but you have to provide a price. Ebay is another option where the price can be whatever you like to start it off.

The man 100 will only rise in value but never decrease.

Thanks very much for your replies. I don't know enough about pens to contribute to get my post count up to 30 and I won't spam your forum for the sake of it.

I will have a think about options.

I did rinse out the pen once we had used it so I'm pretty sure it's all clean. The nib looks in top condition.

Thanks again.

Hi Syphon.

We al started with our first pen and gradually learned more. Mostly by asking questions.

Asking relevant questions is also an accepted means to get at 30 posts. That will take some time, but you'll be in "quarantaine' for one month anyway. It might be frustrating if you are genuine and honest about selling something, but it is a way to keep malafide sellers outside. A small price to pay.

Anyway, good to have you here, enjoy, read a lot an in a few years time you'll become knowledgeable as well...
