PIC: Shown the first time anywhere (?). Complete set Wahl Oxford Giant Bantam set

Have had a few of these pass my way the last year or two. Realized with the latest one (golden pearl) that I now have photo'd all three (at least I believe there are no more) colors. Time to assemble a montage. This one was a bit rushed so sorry if not too elegant a layout.

regards

David

I came across one of these recently in gold. Maybe I should go back and pick it up. Actually the pen I recall was a full size pen probably 5 inches long. Richards site discribes these as small pens. What are the deminsions on these?

There's also a blue one AND there is a variation that is the identical pen but has the cap and blind cap material the whole way down and is a lever filler. The same pen may also exist with Eversharp markings but not sure on that. These are not small, they are standard sized pens.

Save the Wahls!

I know the body and plastic are identical just can't remember the brand on the one I saw. Guess I'll go have a look tomorrow, any thoughts on what would be a fair price for one of these?

PS. Sorry for hijacking the thread David.

Here's a comparison of a Bantam and a "Giant Bantam."

Lynn's comments are accurate. Going through my collection I see the blue in the same pattern and also a reddish caramel (not gold color). Like I always start out, it is very hard to talk price on most vintage pens, let alone on those that in my opinion are sub-sub categories of a line, especially at the lower end of the original price range when for some reason a demand for same goes up. Put another way, all it it really takes is 2 or more people believing an item is desirable and rare in competition with one-another or more persons to drive a price off the charts. Just look at what has happened to the current (maybe for the past 9 months to a year) eBay prices on the "Tulip clip pens" that were low end student model pens when new, but with a little hype, and glorifying photos, and Voila! a $400 pen! Luckily the full size bulb filler pen in question here has not received such over-emphasis as to engineer a value as far as I know. In my opinion these pens are worth about the same as the other lower end pens from the same era and as such, are in the league with other vintage utility pens and they all seem to run in the $75 to $125 range. Of course if one believes that the latest sale determines the current price, my answer is all wet. Anyway, "Rare" does not equate with "valuable". There are other criteria that come together to make an item intrinsically more valuable than another.

Have not seen a blue yet, Lynn. One more pen to hunt...

I’ve found 3 so far. I think they’re pretty great actually. I have yet to see, as mentioned above, a blue one though. Would love to find one! Cheers
