I've yet to come across one, either vintage or modern, that I like and would buy.

The Bexley Owners is pretty much one yes?

Bryant, touche, you got me. I'd forgotten about it, but I regard it more as a solid silver pen than an overlay; technically I believe it's an overlay, however.

I only have one overlay, and it's quite sedate. I love the feel of the reeding, though!

It is indeed sedate -- I must say I am surprised! Nothing purple or teal. What do you think of the new Conway Stewart overlays with the coloured sparkly resins underneath, or, for that matter, my red and plum Krones -- would you ever go for those? Those two Krones are the most colourful pens I own!

Looking at the results of this poll so far, it seems that FPN members are pretty much split between liking and disliking overlays.

I like the intricate silver overlay on the Krone Architectus Swords, Visconti Taj Mahal and Krone Architectus Gothic. The CS and Conklin seem a little flat for me... Have you considered adding the new Chatsworth from CS to your collection?

The sheet of silver used in the CS overlay must be considerably thicker than the picture leads on. It practically feels solid, with some rounded and some rough edges; the overlay is three-dimensional, far from the thin foil of the vintage overlays (that I saw). The Conklin is somewhat less so, but still not a foil overlay.

(Just giving an independent 3rd-party perspective.)

I would say that the Krones are a bit too 3-D, almost to the point of being caricatures of silver overlay. I assure you that the CS and Conklin are not flat by any means. A very thick layer of sterling silver, impeccably crafted.

The new CS Chatsworth line is too colourful for me. I think that the bright, sparkly resin competes with the silver overlay, rather than functioning as a backdrop, the way it is meant to. This is just my opinion of course. The Krones are also colourful, but more subdued, and the overlay is heavier, darker, more dominant.

Especially on the Westminster where the "windows" show the sparkle in the subdued gray of the resin.

I sent one of them back because the overlay wasn't hooked together all that well.

Yes, that was a wild clearance sale, and as a result I do not think the QC on the remaining pens was that great. In the first package I received, the tines were criss-crossed on the Gothic! Happily, FPH exchanged it and paid for shipping costs both ways.

Oh, I'd love something different.

Silver and black are the company colors, and it is a rare Stipula. It's funny -- at one point, I thought I'd sell it because I don't like black, but I just love the pen. It's not black resin, though, it's black genuine cellulose, complete with camphor smell.

This is a Silver Overlay from India.

It is NOT a pen that will be for sale.

The manufacturer states it is Sterling, However, it is not so marked.

The nib is 14ct Gold and Extra Fine.

It is a very heavy pen when filled with nearly 4 mls. of ink.

I have removed the clip. Just didn't seem to work.
