Xonex ru for 50% off

I just picked up a pack of 3 A6 (4 1/8 x 5 3/4) Xonex ru blank* journals, marked $15.99, for 50% off at Chapters. Looks like they're clearing out the stock in favour of other brands (Peter Pauper is a new one I haven't seen before, though I'm not in Chapters often).

It very well could be a clearance item in just this one store, but it's worth a look at your nearest book big box!

I haven't used the Xonex ru before, but a quick search of FPN shows people think it's a reasonable product for the money. A quick line with some Herbin Cafe des Iles in a pen with a wet writing F shows just a touch of hairline feathering along the paper fibres and a little bleedthrough - exactly what I experience from this combo in a moleskine. Not fantastic, but for $2.67 a notebook, it'll do.

Ryan.

* The three pack actually came with one blank, one lined, and one squared notebook. The blank and lined look good, but the squared is odd - a 3mm grid with heavy gray lines.

Saw this while looking for something else. Oddly enough, the Container Store in Frisco/Plano TX carries these, and if I recall correctly, reasonably priced. I was not in need of a journal at the time, and knew nothing about Xonex, but I filed the name away in my beady brain, because it is not that common a brand name, at least in Texas.

The larger size is an exclusive for the Container Store (I had checked with Xonex several months ago). Lies flat, although one of three I purchased over a year or so made inks spread noticeably. They are available with (wide) lined paper only. I recently made the mistake of picking up the pocket-sized version at a Container Store -- one I bought elsewhere last year was very nice, unlined, with smooth off-white paper. The Container Store version is lined (I broke my rule of not buying shrink-wrapped notebooks, thinking that this was the normal item, not a line specially manufactured for the Container Store) and the paper again encourages feathering* more than the "classic" version. It is also slightly narrower, more along the proportions of a Moleskine pocket notebook than the wider regular version (I prefer the width-to-height ratio in the non-Container-Store version).

*Usable, but not up to the quality of the Xonex Ru I purchased elsewhere and I don't like to see fatter lines than usual coming out of a fine nib -- may be luck of the draw, though. I used to notice that the Container Store priced its Rhodia goods higher than other stores, but haven't checked lately and have never checked whether the Milquerius items are also sold at a premium.
