Three Charming Deltas

My three Deltas: Federico Fellini LE; Dolce Vita Soiree, and Via Veneto.

One of Delta's undeniable charms, is their attention to detail. I love the intricately carved

silver trim on the Fellini and Dolce Vita, and the delicate casein insets on the Via Veneto.

The nibs all wrote perfectly out of the box. The Felini is a Medium, which I will soon have

altered to a stub. The Dolce Vita Soiree has been reground to a .45mm cursive italic, and

the Via Veneto is a Fine -- putting down a true fine line, unlike other Deltas I have tried,

which tend to write wet and wide.

The understated beauty of these pens make them my favourite Deltas; the great nibs make

them some of my favourite writers. And I enjoy the Italian film references as well!

Thanks!

I've seen the Omas Cinema, but did not think it was for me. I think it's the gray marbling + gold trim combination that I'm not crazy about.

One reason I like the Delta Fellini LE, is that it has a hefty sterling cap-ring in the form of a negative strip. It makes sense, because of the involvement of silver in film development -- so I thought the whole concept of this pen came together very well.

Have to confess to a fondness for Deltas even tho' they're too light for me to use for marathon sessions on the whole.

Ah but have you tried the Delta Federico Fellini LE? It is very thick and fairly heavy, with all that sterling silver. The barrel is double the width of a Parker Duofold barrel!

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but what's that green/black crescent filler on the far right? It's beautiful!

Thanks! That's another Italian -- a Stipula Saturno. It is ebonite, with sterling silver trim and crescent filler -- beautiful pen with a spectacular stub nib.

This is a lovely trio of Deltas. I have to admit a definite prejudice in favor of the Soiree. I think it is elegant to a fault. The size is perfect for me, and I love the B nib on mine. - I have other Delta FP's with plain M nibs that write wonderfully. To me they are wet M's, and they are smooth and well mannered. I ordered my Soiree with a M nib assuming it would write like the other Deltas, but it wrote like a F which I did not care for. I had the nib swapped for the B, and it writes like a Japanese B - a M/B line. I love Japanese B nibs, so this combination is great for me. Still, it seems out of character for a Delta nib.

I had not considered a Fellini. Maybe I need to rethink that model.

Sounds like my Passion. Nib says B, but it sure writes like an M to me.

My Soiree nib was labeled Fine, but wrote like a Medium until I reground it to a cursive italic.

The Fellini LE is labeled Medium and writes as such.

The Via Veneto is labeled Fine, and writes on the thin side of Fine.

So I see no pattern so far!

I've now put a review of the Via Veneto here

-- not many people seem to know about this pen!

The via is an interesting pen with the casien top. The color is hard to describe as it is opaque but still lets some light through.

I agree with FrankB that the Soiree is an elegant and understated pen - I don't think it gets the street cred that it deserves. I had one with a medium nib; however, it wrote too fine for me (sounds rather familiar) so I traded it for a Parker 51 flighter with a broad nib. The person that I traded it to contacted Delta and they sent him a medium nib (free of charge) because the original nib was apparently mislabeled (it was a fine). If I had only known, I would have kept it. Now I troll FPN and the green board, patiently waiting for another one but they are few and far between in the "secondary" market, with good reason!

Kurt, did you have one of these and sell it?

Yes I have sold a Via as well as a Fellini on FPN. The Via was a little too small for my hand so it left. But I think it funded some otehr interesting pens.

And just as a side note I was in a local hardware store this weekend when someone wearing pretty much your avatar came in. I've moved from a French area to Pa Dutch area, at least I have half a chance with a few years of German to be understood/ understand the talk!

Heh, neat. My avatar is actually a Shaker Sister's outfit. A few still exist at the Sabbathday Colony in Maine...

Have you ever interacted with the PA Dutch?
