What Pens Are You Using Today?

Lately I've been using this $10 Dannitu 100, (the red one, "danny rabbit"??). This pen sat in the drawer for months after I bought it because I thought it was too broad, and it's scratchy if you hold it at the wrong angle. But then I put my new Unsulfured Apricot mix #4 in it and suddenly it's my most-used pen. It's amazing how much the ink/pen pairing makes a difference. Scratchiness is gone, by the way, probably on account of the Swishmix Burgundy in the mix?

I've also been using the Fuliwen Goldenman (815), the pewter version, with my Sequoia Grey mix. This pen is so handsome, and for such a cheap price!! ($25). Only complaint is that I've used pens with much more comfortable sections for gripping it (hello, Sensa Meridian?!!) but it really makes a difference when you can't stop looking at your pen and admiring it. Note: I've had slight ink leakage from the part where the clip meets the cap. (SLIGHT, but this still shouldn't happen). The pen doesn't spill ink in the cap, though (no more than other snap pens, just a speck here and there).

It's really weird because all my other pens (and inks!) are being greatly neglected, now that I've been using these two pens so much more often!! I used to be such a Duke fanatic, but I haven't used mine in days!!!

Last day of "ski" trip (minimal snow and marginally sick kid, so lots of resting and only a little skiing). Brought with me a 10-pen case, a 2-pen case, plus one more that would be in a pocket when not doing activities that might break pens or bones.

In the 2 pen case are:

- blue Omas Articulata with blue ink

- Creme de Menthe Visconti Opera with PR Gray Flannel.

In the 10 pen case are:

- Faber Castell Guilloche in red with Levenger Cardinal ink

- Pelikan M215 with 30 degree right foot nib. Didn't realize it, but it's empty. Was supposed to be the main pen to be used this week. Oh well.

- Monteverde Artista with Noodler's Apache Sunset

- Vanishing point with Platinum Blue/Black, Mottishaw right foot oblique

- Marlen Dossenus with black ink

- Ancora with PR Orange Crush

- Laban Mento with Sheaffer Brown

- Waterman Liaisaon with Waterman Brown, Binder Arabic nib

- Bexley Submariner Grande,

- little Sheaffer flat top with nice cap & cruddy barrel with Pelikan Green. (short pen good for short pockets)

- Dani raw ebonite with the same black ink filled at the DC show (darn this thing holds a lot of ink!)

- the 'lost & found' late model Camel, bought, restored by Ron Zorn, and 'lost' at the LI pen show. Found it while packing for the trip!

And, the one that is getting the most use this trip, a big red Diamond Point flat top with a Waterman nib, restored by Joel Hamilton.

Oh, and my Christmas ballpoint, which the waitress on Christmas eve actually guessed in what may have been record time... do you know what it says?

I've made myself a new challenge - only ink a pen when you need to use it*, and then ink it with the colour you want. This means that I have four inked and seven uninked today.

*Apart from these, which are my everyday standards for the time being

Waterman Phileas M nib, W'man black, for addressing envelopes and BIG writing

Lamy Safari F nib, PR Blue Suede, for diary and journal

Lamy Safari M nib, PR Blue Suede (today), for notes

Special for today

Pelikan M200 M nib, Waterman Havana, for writing a letter to my Aunt

Chris
