My shiny new tortoiseshell and white Pelikan Souverän M400 with Medium nib. Arrived with the post this very morning. I think the M nib will take a little getting used to. It's a bit like writing with a brush after my usual F/EF nibs, but it's s-m-o-o-t-h. Still, I asked for a medium, and I'm planning to give it a good workout. In the meantime, colour me happy, and if I don't take to the nib, I still have 27 days to exchange it!

Well this morning when I came into the office there was a brown envelope containing (I guessed) a recent purchase. Oh what a nice way to start the day (you know that great feel of anticipation)- a new pen...Well I opened it up to discover a Dark Green (what we over this side of the pond might call British Racing Green) pen with very good quality gold metal work. Now I was dubious about the colour as it was described (it had a poor photo that made the pen look black!) but it is really very beautiful (falling in love as so soon in the relationship (maybe I'm a pen slut)).

I closely examined the nib the reason I bought the pen - a flexible medium nib! Now I am no expert on flexy nibs. In fact I have just taken the plunge and bought some pens for their flexy nibs (well if I am left alone by my wife who is on business in San Fran....)

What is the pen I hear you groan! Well it is a Swan Self-Filler Mabie Todd model 3240 with a Swan 3 14ct Nib.

On first inspection the nib underwhelmed me, well it’s just that it is small and unimpressive (well we all know that size don’t matter - right!). So I reach for my bottle of Noddlers Heart of Darkness (a great saturated black) and lifted the gold lever and filled (this being a restored pen)the pen.

Now real life ain't Hollywood (some are thinking this is going way too well)...

But to the romantics who are ready to believe I say ----Yes it is true love! It wrote like nothing I have ever used..As I say I am a flex neophyte but I am confounded by the flex in the nib, in excess 1mm of a beautiful wet line that does not starve of ink!!!!

Well I spent today in the exclusive company of my new love Ms Mabie Todd (Flexy to her friends)...Will this whirlwind burn out as quickly as it started....

well it depends on the other flexy pens when they arrive (typical man I hear the ladies exclaim! Always something better over the next hill or in the next envelop...well I did warn you that I might just be a pen slut).

But joking apart this is a real looker (surprise) and what a writer (bigger surprise)! Even my script looks good with wonderful variation.

As soon as I figure how to take decent pics and how to post them I promise I will do a review (my first)!

So I had a great pen day, hope you did too! :cloud9:

Talk soon

Patrick

Today, I used Airmail, Camlin and Wing Sung.

Airmail, was as ever graceful.

Camlins Sleek with its semi-hooded nib and an external piston filler, gave a special feel while writing. I used this pen today after 12 years!

My Wing Sung 842 is new and still being trained with my writing styles.
