What Pens Are You Using Today?

Of the hundreds of pens that have passed through my hands, only one so far has been a complete washout.

I tried using a Huashilai today---there was no way I could get it to write, not with its included converter, not with a cart.

Indeed, the converter wouldn't even draw the ink (Pel BB). I think there may be a feed problem. Don't know the cure.

A shame, since it's a good-looking pen, black with a white marbled cap.

Do you have an image of the Pen?

I'd like to see it. Or do you have a link?

I'd have to take pics and post them.

I'll see if I can do that later today.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

A Duke with the name Philip Benz on it. Supposedly this pen was made for the Philip Benz Collection by Duke. I'm told that it is questionable as to whether or not there actually is a Philip Benz Collection and that the seller of this line is a scam. I can't really remember how I acquired this fountain pen but I know it was through an internet transaction. This Duke is really a pretty nice pen, black barrel with a contempary artistic cap. I see that it sells for about $25 via this Philip Benz site. It lays a pretty smooth line as mine is filled with Hero Black. The nib has beautiful artwork and the balance of the pen is great. The chrome trim is highly polished and of good quality. Scam or not, this is a nice fountain pen!

Here's the 'Hua.' I suspect it's a feed problem as the ink isn't getting out OR in, but I may lack the knowledge to fix or even diagnose it.

Also apologies for the poor image (the nib's not bent but the light makes it look so); it's a cam-pic.

#1 - a sweet Cross Century Classic that was sold to me as a Century II. Turns out it wasn't and I'm SO glad. It's an amazingly sweet writer, though a very non-descript looking pen. I had it inked up with MB British Racing Green (discontinued ink in a discontinued pen!) and it was sublime. Then it ran out and I had to re-ink with Noodler's Black (that's what I had at work), which doesn't write as wet as the Racing Green but I'm still enjoying it.

#2 - for editing, my beloved Elysee inked up with PR Orange Crush. I adore the shading on that ink.

I start the collection with a Visconti Kakadu #65/100 and now wonder if Visconti will be my manufacture of choice. I find there range solid, manly, defining, real and statement making. From eBay I have bought a few inexpensive pens but now have my sights firmly on a Visconti Opera “Master”. This is a similar price to the Kakadu at AU$1495.

The Master comes in the wooden box etc. And complete with a Visconti Xtal ink well. I have no ink well so this purchase will give me another exquisite Pen and a much needed ink well. What are your thoughts on the Opera series? I like the Van Gogh series too and they are far more affordable

Haolilai 601F. Nice satisfying weight, lovely snap when cap goes on (I do this several times whenever I pick up the pen, just for the sound and feel), starts well, writes pleasantly with a line on the fine side of medium, doesn't skip or overwet. Quite fond of this pen.

When you're good at it, it's really miserable.

Today I am toting and using an Italian made Yafa rollerball that uses fountain pen ink. I know this is considered treason to some by not being a true fountain pen but the concept of this pen is in my opinion, the way of the future! The pen accepts either cartridges or an ink converter. I have it filled with Waterman Black ink, using a syringe filled cartridge. This is a sturdy, well built pen, burgundy barrel with a brushed steel cap. A very smart looking pen! I paid about $15 for this pen and find that it is worth every cent of it. It lays a good wet line, is never messy and has excellent balance! I also own this pen in yellow and in black.

Today's pen is a Mk II mid 1960s Navy Grey Parker 51 and an early 1970s Cisele Parker 75 with a broad nib both inked up with Noodlers Midnight Blue.

I use a Bexley pen in my daytimer for work log and project notes; Viewpoint with black ink for making lists and jotting thoughts. I hope to practice with my new Victorian dip pen later. Put on latex gloves and a hazmat suit and I'm good to go.

My Bexley-not-really-made-by-Bexley is my go-to pen every day.

TRYING to use that Huashilai 3000---and a Pilot Prera.

Both hard starters, stingy writers. But at least I got the Hua' to draw ink!

While waiting for some pens to be delivered from eBay purchases, I acquired this "every day use" Monteverde. It appears they are a US company and an excellent range of pens.

The one I chose is MV40065 Chrome (medium tip) Invincia - carbon fibre. Feels rough on the page at the moment but I'm sure it will settle in.

Can some one commemnt on this pen or even the company? Does any one else have a Monte Verde?

Hero 329 (slim model) filled with Hero Black ink. This little pen has a F nib and writes like a much more expensive pen. I have about seven bucks in this pen. The weight and balance are excellent and the cap posts beautifully. I'm impressed with the ink flow as it lays a good wet line. Overall, this pen is a real bargain. Mine is a burgundy with the arrow on the outside of the barrel at the section and has a brushed steel cap. moonriver17
