Today I'll be using my freshly restored Dupont double-ender (fountain pen on one end, mechanical pencil on the other) for notes and scratching at my Hero System game, with my Wing Sung 233 as backup.

Does not always write loving messages.

Does not always foot up columns correctly.

Does not always sign big checks.

Today I used a Teal Parker "51" Aero (M) filled with Diamine Chocolate and a Yellow Pilot VP (M) filled with Diamine Majestic Blue to outline a chapter on solving linear equations as a prep to teach Monday's Honors Algebra I class.

Sunday I used just one pen all day, a 1931 Parker Duofold Jr., filled with a homebrew burgundy mix. I have done all my writing so far today with a 1950s Geha Schulfüller (which has a wonderful semi-flex fine steel nib), filled with a Pelikan Turquoise/Private Reserve Sherwood Green mix.

I'm not sure about this evening, but I'm thinking probably the Pelikan 800 filled with Visconti Blue, or the 1927 Parker Duofold Sr. filled with Private Reserve D.C. Supershow Blue.

Today I'm using dip pen and Joseph Gillott's Mid Elastic #603 nib, with Pelikan Brilliant Black. It's the most well behaved ink to use with this extremely wet nib, it seems.

Today I am using a gift I got yesterday from a friend, a Pierre Cardin fountain pen, not a bad writer at all for an inexpensive pen. Very smooth medium-fine, good ink flow. Currently loaded up with FPN's Manuscript Brown. I tried looking it up on the web, but there are just too many different put out by them and no actual model number/name on this one.

Today I have used a Baoer Eight-horses pen, which I find a very reliable everyday pen. I have also tried out a new Pilot 78G with stub italic nib, which arrived in the post this morning. I am using Pelikan black in both of them.

Sheaffer 444 XG with Sheaffer Brown ink

New Parker 45 with Diamine Jet Black

Both with medium nibs

The Sheaffer quite simply does whatever I ask of it, the 45 needs to be held at a particular angle otherwise the nib gets scratchy and the feed stops. Still, for the money it's not bad.

When you're good at it, it's really miserable.

I felt brave today; I took two celluloid pens to work (I work in a decidedly non-FP-friendly environment). One was my trusty green Esterbrook J, probably sturdier than some of the cheap pens I usually carry; the other was my Majestic cracked-ice lever filler, with its nice flexy Warranted #2 (and much thinner celluloid than an Estie). Both survived the day, and the Majestic proved it was smooth enough to do the newspaper crosswords (with Noodler's Bulletproof Black).

Does not always foot up columns correctly.

Does not always sign big checks.

MB 149.

I spent 10 minutes last night reshaping the nib as it was too fine and dry for my tastes and after a final polish with 3M 0.5 micron paper, it wrote so beautifully that I couldn't resist taking it in to work and not using the Starwalker for the first day since I got it:)

Some new additions to my collection have been undergoing a bit of exercise today.

A cracked ice Napoleon-Aero vintage 1940's German Plunger Filler ....buttery smooth Degussa stainless steel semiflex nib

and a Wyvern 303 about 1948 and my first button filler.

Both very different pens but each with tremendous character.

Today I'm testing new ink: Montblanc Ruby Red with my Starwalker F.

The red is almost pink, very fluid and bright. Not a very discreet color.

So far all writing tasks this morning have been with a 1927 Parker Duofold Senior filled with Private Reserve D.C. Supershow Blue.

In my pocket as I head out for meetings is a burgundy aurorloide Aurora Optima filled with Diamine Majestic Blue.
