What Pens Are You Using Today?

I'm all over the place today, but since I'm based at home, I've pulled out some of the nicest pens to use:

For my overall list of household chores/repairs/etc. (which is, alas, very, very long), I used my Pelikan M800 tortoise filled with Herbin Ambre de Birmanie.

For my shopping and errand list, I am using my Visconti Arte Mudejar with a palladium 1.3 stub filled with Herbin Lie de The (keep adding things to the list as I think of them).

For my "get done this afternoon" list (yes, OK, I make a lot of lists), I used my newly acquired Pelikan 100 tortoise filled with Waterman Blue-black.

And I'm currently working on some work data entry (no rest for the wicked), using my MB Poe mechanical pencil.

:D

Three on my leather case:

  • Waterman Phileas w. Parker blue ink
  • Sheaffer Snorkel Statesman w. Noodlers bulletproof black ink
  • Montblanc classic w. Montblanc black ink

Plus, this morning I found at the office (someone lost it) a Caran D'Ache 849 ballpoint from the 80's, and I asked for it to my collection. I have changed its dry refill to a humble Inoxcrom jumbo.

Well, I recieved a few pens in the mail this weekend and a few from repair and also I work on a few:

Stipula Saturno Olive Woodgrain color W/1.1 Stub Nib

Aurora Optima Burgandy Red W/Broad nib (I worked on this nib for a few hours on Saturday) It was once a toothy nib now it is a smooth Juicy Broad nib!!! Patience and persistance Pays off!!

Lamy 2000 W/Broad Nib Thanks Kurt!! This is a fantastic Pen with a wonderfully smooth nib. Why did I wait so long to buy a Lamy 2000?

Visconti Copernicus Black&Blue celluloid striped W/Medium nib

Stipula Etruria Ocean Blue W/1.3 Stub Nib

TNS

I find it so amazing that five doller fountain pens can actually do the same job that five hundred dollar fountain pens do! I am using a Yibo 121 filled with Hero blue and a Lambitou 322 filled with Visconti green and a Duke Imperial filled with Hero blue. All three can be purchased for less than twenty dollars! All three have an F nib. Each lays a good rich and wet line of ink. None have ever leaked or caused any problems. I too, would love to have the high dollar pens if I could afford them but I'm not sure why because these cheapies can really do the same job! Who's paying the big bucks to keep the companies that produce the high end pens, going??

Today I am using a matte black/gold Parker Arrow, a gift from a good friend whose wife handles estate sales. She found this one for me and also a Parker Sentenial Snorkel in dove grey, both pens have M nibs. The Snorkel needed a new filling system but the Arrow was perfect.

Waterman Charleston. I haven't been that enamoured of it because I found it kind of scratchy but last night suddenly hit the sweet spot while writing something with it. Can't wait to use it today.

Today one of my workhorses is in hand -- a Copper Esterbrook J model with a Venus Fine nib that is filled with Aurora Blue. Like most of my favorite users, this was an abandoned pen tossed into the proverbial junk box by a former owner. It has a heat scar on the cap about 1mm x 2mm x25mm and a crack through the barrel threads. The scar on the cap is like a warrior's mark of honor and in the restoration process I needed to shellac the section into place so the barrel threads would remain stable. The pen had a strong heart -- the j-bar was perfect -- so with the addition of a new ink sac and an exchange of its broken nib with a wonderful Venus Fine nib this pen got a new lease on life -- and it has become a flawless writer and a pleasure to use. smile.gif
