Today, as usual, I used my Wing Sung 230 for crosswords at work; this evening I believe I'll use my Sheaffer TD Imperial (I think it's an VIII) with fine stub regrind, for my journal.

Does not always write loving messages.

Does not always foot up columns correctly.

Does not always sign big checks.

Rotring TintenKuli

Koh-i-noor Inkograph

Rotring 1300 (Brushograph)

I am in the middle of a large project converting a computer program I wrote 13 years ago to run on-line. Most of the code fills 3 three-ring binders. As it is basically a script I convert it from beginning to end. This involves a lot of notes, editing and highlighting. For basic notes I use my new (to me) Tintenkuli Spezial. This is pretty much a regular Tintenkuli with a metal cap and a transparent nib section. No real difference in usability. A Tintenkuli is the ancestor of a Rapidiograph but has a rounded end on the tube nib so it writes at lower angles. Great for quick notes as you don't need to rotate it so that the nib is upright. The uniform line width adds legibility to my terrible handwriting. I use Platinum Carbon Black for maximum density. Editing is done with a Koh-i-noor "Inkograph". I have no idea why they latched onto this famous name for this model. It is simply a Tintenkuli sold under another name, which, in this case, means a Rapidograh with a very slightly different nib. Noodlers Maroon makes nicely noticeble edits. The Rotring 1300 was also sold as the Brushograph which tells you that it is a Rapidograph with a nylon brush instead of a needle nib. This one is a size 40 - 4 mm wide. That is over 30 times wider than the nib of a 000000 Rapidograph. Noodlers Hellfire makes it a very enjoyable highlighter.

Tintenkulis and Rapidographs aren't glamorous but they get the job done. They don't leak much, they always write unless you put something really strange in them and anything short of hardened epoxy can be cleaned out of their innards. And they feel so much better to write with than a ball-point. Live ink! No training wheels!

Not much writing today, as I rode the bicycle for a couple hours this morning, then went to a movie and dinner to celebrate my son's birthday this afternoon.

I jotted some notes this morning with my charcoal Lamy Safari, filled as always with Private Reserve Tanzanite.

Tonight's journal writing will be with my red auroloide Aurora Optima, filled with Diamine Majestic Blue, and one or both of these:

* black Omas old style Paragon, filled with Omas Blue,

* blue stripe Pelikan 800, filled with Visconti Blue.

My F- nibbed Safari and Pilot Knight all day, and now I'm playing around with a Sheaffer viewpoint F that I've adjusted the flow on and my F-nibbed Lamy 2000...

I think my 2000 is a little on the dry side, but I'm really not game to try adjusting it myself...
