What Pens Are You Using Today?

I'm still trying to break in my new Visconti Van Gogh. It is proving to be a bit stubborn even with several cleanings and fresh Waterman ink. It gets a little better every day and I'm trying to be patient. But I must say I'm disappointed!

It should work great straight out of the box! What's the problem?

It is not making good contact on the upstroke and just generally uneven. I've never had one give me this much trouble. I have a Visconti Opera that is flawless so I'm understandably disappointed. It was a gift - a full price one at that - so I will take it back to Paradise Pens if it doesn't shape up soon. Another person on this site suggested a good cleaning with a drop or two of dish detergent. That helped a bit.

Any thoughts?

Today at work I used my Wing Sun 230 (PR Ebony Green) for the crosswords, as usual (I'll probably switch this pen to Noodler's Black next time it needs filling). Tonight's journal will be written with my newly arrived Sheaffer Imperial (Touchdown filler, fine stub regrind nib, Noodler's Black).

Does not always write loving messages.

Does not always foot up columns correctly.

Does not always sign big checks.

I'd say you either need to have a flow adjustment for a dry nib, or you have a nib with some babybottom. Either way means send it in to a nibmeister or send it back.

All of them (finest to broadest):

Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph, #2/.60 point, Noodler's Black.

Black Pilot Plumix, nib reground from <M> italic to monoline F, Noodler's Black.

Dollar (Pakistan) "demonstrator," F nib, Noodler's Black.

Rotring Core Lysium, F nib, Noodler's Black.

Pilot 3A aerometric filler, F nib, Noodler's Black.

Aldo Domani (YAFA) Sorrento mini pen, F nib, Noodler's Black.

Lamy Safari Orange, F nib, Lamy black.

Pilot Varsity disposable, unmarked nib, refilled with Diamine Royal Blue.

Stypen, model unknown, unmarked nib, unknown blue ink.

Parker Reflex, unmarked nib, probably M, Noodler's Black.

Blue Pilot Plumix, <M> italic nib, Pilot blue.

Red Sheaffer No-Nonsense calligraphy F italic nib, Sheaffer Skrip black.

Green Sheaffer Viewpoint, M italic nib, Noodler's Black.

I like Noodler's Black. I also like a lot of inexpensive pens. :-)

It is really simpler than it sounds!

The scan makes the pen look all black but take it to 300% and you will see the smokey grey

Just had a week and a half from hell editing an industry compendium. But, when I'd done as much as I could on this machine I'd have to run off a few prints of some or all of the thing and go through it. Had such fun! (Sad-o my colleagues yell out!)

Used my fine point Nakaya Kuro-tamenuri cigar model filled with Monaco Red - possibly the best editing gadget for me in the world!

Also my Graf von Faber Castell Amber PoY 2004 with PR Orange Crush or Shoreline Gold (refill halfway through the process)

Sailor 1911 Sterling filled with Noddlers Dostoevsky (boy that nib goes through some ink but what fun)

and my latest child, the Visconti DP with a fine nib running PR DC Supershow blue.

Gosh, embarrasingly bling list after reading the other post doing the rounds today about someone looking for a very non-bling pen.

Hey -Ho

I had fun. Still am, final proof reading this weekend. Better head off to refil the tanks!
