An antique desk pen given to me by my wife last week. It's got a very springy nib with a heart-shaped hole, and is marked:

"WARRANTED

14K

6"

The fellow who sold it to my wife on EBay thought it was a Waterman and that it was made some time in the 1920s. It's body is a greenish marble-looking material.

Truth is, it's a heck of a lot of fun to write with. The lever-fill sac is missing, so I can only use it as a dip pen, but I've only had to dip it about twice a day.

I'm going to send it to Richard Binder for a new sac and a nib tuneup.

Old Style M800 F nib blue-striated/black cap [ca. @ Nov. 1995], with Caran d' Ache Caribbean Sea turquoise ink [letter writing].

Pilot VP M nib Mustard [ca. @ Dec. 2000], with Noodler's Borealis black ink [have needed a black ink for forms & signatures lately].

“I view my fountain pens & inks as an artist might view their brushes and paints.

They flow across paper as a brush to canvas, transforming my thoughts into words and my words into art.

There is nothing else like it; the art of writing and the painting of words!”

A german made ERO which is piston filled and made around early 60s, really good medium nib, massive capacity in ink, nice ink view window, only problem is that it is pink flowers on black :( it was described by the seller as red and black, I dont do pink anything thank you, not even for £3 worth.

MB 144 RB (red M refill)

Aurora Optima Demonstrator (m) with Waterman blue/black - just emptied and flushed it - it is new, and, unfortunately, writes like garbage (my third Aurora - other two are great) - it is going to be shipped off for "refinement". BUMMER!

MB 146 (m) was filled with Noodler's black (just a solid performing ink in this pen) - just got back from the local MB Boutique with a bottle of the Brit Racing Green... Filled 'er up, and off we go... Wow, I really like this ink... First MB ink I have purchased in 10 or so years, and I am really pleased...

When you find a tool works well, keep using it. Today I used my Wing Sung 230 for the crosswords in the paper at work, and my Huashilai 2375 for other things at work where a fountain pen was safe to use (and a Papermate soft grip ball point for my ongoing paperwork, on paper that may be dirty or greasy).

Tonight, I'll most likely be using my unknown Hero model (possibly a 187) for my journal -- finishing off 200 pages since starting daily writing in mid-April.

Does not always write loving messages.

Does not always foot up columns correctly.

Does not always sign big checks.

For me, today is Waterman Phileas day. Of course, it is that day almost every day because I only have two pens currently but what the hey. I like using it. Today's color choice is a nice Waterman Blue.

Scribbled some notes with a Pilot Birdie earlier. I'd put that one out to pasture a while ago, and since inking it again I've been reminded of how good the nib is.

I'm in a dip-n-discern phase, including many Heros, and some Sheaffer school/cart pens.

The ink of choice for this task: Pel BB.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

I'm still trying to break in my new Visconti Van Gogh. It is proving to be a bit stubborn even with several cleanings and fresh Waterman ink. It gets a little better every day and I'm trying to be patient. But I must say I'm disappointed!

It should work great straight out of the box! What's the problem?

1950's vintage CS 58, filled with Lamy Blue/Black (iron gall). For the first few days after fill, the pen ran kind of dry; it was hard starting and tended to write thin. But now it gives me a full, wet line. I wonder if the ink cleaned out some channels in the feed?

The moment we want to believe something, we suddenly see all the arguments for it, and become blind to the arguments against it.
