823 Crack Repair

Hi, I am a newbie and am delighted to have found FPN. I own 2 black 823s. The first has a Broad nib and the other a Medium modified by John Mottishaw into a left Oblique. One of the pen bodies has developed 2 cracks, one of which is in the threads. This crack leaks into the crook between my thumb and index finger. While I can use the one pen body and change the nib depending upon my mood, this gets annoying. I am looking to repair/replace the pen body at a reasonable price. Failing that, perhaps I'll sell the pen cap. Any suggestions?

Where did you buy the 823? If you bought it from John Mottishaw, I'd email him.

These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value.--Thomas Paine, "The American Crisis", 1776

Unfortunately I didn't buy it from John. I bought on ebay about a year ago. Although the seller was helpful, too much time had elapsed to have Pilot replace under a warranty. He indicated that he would forward to Pilot for me but there would be a charge and that it might be substantial. Hence the posting.

Well, I'm afraid you'll have to post on the WTB forum and hope that someone has a "parts" pen they're willing to "part" with. Pilot USA would only be able to ship it to the home office in Japan, as this pen is not marketed in the US. And you'd end up paying almost as much as what a new 823 would cost on eBay from an Asian seller. There was a thread on this a while back, which you could search for.

Alternatively, you can try to glue the cracks, which won't look very good but should at least stop the leak.

Hi,

As long as you did not abuse it (No alcohol, didn't sit on it, didn't use solvents to clean it), I'd contact Pilot and ask them. If that is the case, then it is defective materials, and should be repairable for free.
