There are an awful lot of very clean desks in these photos -- just computers, pens, cell phones, and an ink bottle or two. DON'T ANY OF YOU PEOPLE HAVE STACKS OF PAPER???? What's the point of owning all those fountain pens if you only use computers?

Just wondering.... and trying to figure out why MY desk never looks clean like these other desks.....

Ahem. I have 2 desks... one for the computer and one for the fountain pens. Of course, I am very lucky that I have enough space and a husband who , during our walkthrough of the half-finished house merely sighed heard me announce "I am the President and I am the musician and this will be my office!" when seeing the studio over the garage. My paper is all tucked away in filing cabinets. Many people do that, I think. Gentle ribbing, here.

Paper goes into filing cabinets??? That's an interesting idea! Do you put the papers into files first and then put the files into the filing cabinet, or do you just pick up the stacks and drop each one into a file drawer? The latter approach sounds much simpler....

Oboe, where did you get that parking meter? I want one!

I wish I could say that I dressed in black, snuck out of the house and cut the head off some unsuspecting meter, but no. It was a gifty to my father in law when he retired from serving on the Calgary Parking Authority. Apparently, they all get one when they leave. It comes from a surplus of replaced meters. You can find them for sale on ebay, though. Really good bookend.

Oh, that is such a boring story. I need to learn how to lie better.

My they look comfy :D

This one is just for you, chupie! The cats are permanent fixtures on the various desks at home. And, as far as paper in filing cabinets? The fireplace in more efficient in sorting out the mess.

Talking about fountain pens is like dancing about architecture.

My desk is an L-shaped one (I wanted one specifically like that. If it's all in one place, stuff gets messy in a HURRY). Here's a little tour:

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a215/Fruffles/Desk_left.jpg

On the desktop is a sheet of glass. That's an essential safeguard against ink-spills.

On top of the glass is (left-to-right).

My lineup of pen-boxes. Visible are my Montblanc box (for 145 Chopin), the orange box for my Campo Marzio (just visible), and the little grey box for my Parker 51. Piled on top is half a forest of paper that constitutes mail and university homework.

To the right, at the back, are my two desk-organisers. The one on the left holds my ink. Two bottles of Montblanc Jet Black and a bottle of Quink (rebottled after the old bottle cracked) jet-black. To the right of that is my other desk organiser with assorted (bleep) on top of it. Pencils, rubbers, paperclips, rubber-bands etc. The wooden block thingo is my grandmother's old desk-calender. On the desk is a stack of books & a notepad from university work. That's my Montblanc lying on top, taking a rest after a lot of writing and another refill. The black pen-case on top of the books typically holds my Montblanc, my Parker 51 and my Cross Metropolitan whenever I take them out somewhere (usually to university). It gives them plenty of protection.

This is the other half of my desk. If anyone's wondering, I was listening to Louis Armstrong at the time these photos were taken.

That is my CD collection at the back of the photo. About 99.9% jazz. My old mechanical Coca-Cola alarm-clock, box of tissues, bottle of water (empty). Shot-glass filled with stuff like files, scissors, nail-cutters etc...and for some reason, two suitcase-keys. Underneath the shot-glass is my grandmother's old pen-rest. (I don't use it). To the right is an old filing-cabinet which is used for everything you can think of, EXCEPT filing. The three things stacked up (starting with grey, yellow & clear) are my money-boxes. The thing at the top is the empty Quink bottle with the crack in it. Those three recepticles are the money-gatherers which will pay for my Parker Duofold. (Hopefully). And yeah, for some reasons, I have a bottle of massage-oil on my desk too. Stacked in the tray at the back of the filing-cabinet is yet another pile of papers which I sometimes use...

Howdy. I just checked on ebay and there are a couple of meters for sale. Search for Duncan Meter.

Hi!! greetings from Worcester MA

I saw this post and simply I couldn’t resist the temptation to participate on “The Messiest Desk” contest, only if it is still open. This is a temporal desk, so it is a folding table as a matter of fact, but as soon as possible I will get a nicer and bigger one, this picture includes only the pens “on service” right now.

Cheers!

Mine, taken, by the way, with the new Canon S5 IS, which I am just learning. The image was taken at night, with just the light from the lamp and no flash. My experience, so far, suggests that the camera is extremely useful in low light situations, but that image quality fals off pretty quickly.

I'm embarrassed to show this, but this is my office:

I am decidedly jealous of those with clean offices. But mine is what it is...

And Yes, I can get to my chair and (kinda-sorta) find my desk. But I do have people sign a waiver before they enter it. And I try to keep the stacks of things fairly low so that I don't have to worry about one of our cats getting injured if there's a load shift.

I think the only way to clean out the office will be with a Bobcat...

Wow! Mine looked like that too, until just recently. Don't feel bad. Just let a loved one or the authorities know when you are going into it and when to expect you to come back out just in case you get lost or if there is an avalanche. Just like going hiking in the woods...

I will refrain from mentioning that perhaps you should carry some flares, extra food, a GPS unit, cell phone, and a cyanide pill just in case things get really bleak and help is nowhere to be found. That would just be mean. Especially since it used to be a huge dangerous obstacle course just to get to my desk before the revamp and you were very brave to post a picture.

A desk is very personal. It's great to see all of these desks. It's a window to our personalities and helps personalize this forum. Thanks to all who have shared. So here is a picture of my humble desk!

I think I posted before, but it was before my "desk" area had matured -- so here's an update. After the manner of my ancestors (and hippies), I am a "floor sitter." This just means that the world is my desk!

P.S. Tomorrow is "clean up" day, after which I can't find anything. By the time I get things to where I can find everything, it's clean up day again...
