Well, it's hard to beat this area for flea markets. There are a lot of collectors of pen stuff, though.

I spent most summers trying to get away from my cousins.

I spent most summers trying to get away from my cousins.

Summers in CA were the best, especially for two pre-teens who were given the freedom to go anywhere and do anything. We'd spend entire days on Toes Beach. We'd take the bus and get a Suzy-Q cake and an orange soda for the day's breakfast and lunch (Makes me gag to think of this and I wonder how we survived on this.) When we were a bit older, our parents would leave us and take a trip somewhere so we'd have some crazy parties at my cousin's. Again, I wonder how I survived some of this. One of my fondest memories is a bunch of us dining at the now probably defunct Rock n Roll Sushi in Manhattan Beach. Such great memories and I'm still very close to my cousin.

Very cool. Manhattan Beach is the shiznits. You can walk from Hawthorne all the way to the ocean on the heads of all the techies that live down there now without your feet ever touching the ground.

When I was a kid in Iowa, we firmly believed that if you were Born Again, went to Sunday School, morning and evening church services, prayer meeting mid-week, and never did anything wrong to anybody, that when you died you'd go to Pasadena.

That is not a joke.

New desk arrived today - going to be fun rearranging things to suit it. Glorious Australian silky oak throughout. Not yet restored - that's for next weekend!

My granfather built a small desk back in the 60s made of "special wood from Australia". Never knew what exact species, but now I do! It is very beautiful wood.

Thanks everyone - hope to find some time this w/end to restore the timber finishes; the silky oak is stunning. Shall then put up a better picture. Currently waiting for an Olympia SG1 (typewriter talk) to fix to this desk. Shipping from Germany is horrendous, but the desk deserves it!

Sincerely, beak.

Just bought this desk http://www.afwonline.com/ic280frm.asp?prodno=11307&COMBO1=1401 but it's still in the box. We went shopping for a computer desk for dh and I saw this and fell in love. We are remodeling and the living room, where it will reside, gets very dusty so I will wait til the kitchen and living room have been finished before I unpack it. Can't wait!

Useful looking piece, and not bad for the price.

Of course you do and most people do. My desk would be neat and tidy before a picture. I clean up my desk when I'm finished using it, but that's a carry over from working in Corporate America. A beautiful desk, even if only to the owner, is worth cleaning up and showing off.

In the interest of full disclosure, here is actually where I write most of my letters. My cat has kindly vacated the tray so I can take a picture. I have no idea who it is on tv at the moment. I tried to clear away the cheetos... I have three other desks but am consigned to this tiny space because the desks are, you know, full.

The pen pocket thing around the cup! Where did you find that?

Hi Ya'll,

Finally got a desk just for writing this last weekend. Have always wanted one with cubbies and little drawers!
