Thanks all. I knew that if it wasn't simple, I wouldn't finish before Monday, so another week would pass. As with all things, one can see how to improve it later on, but it's fine for now, and, importantly, in place and doing it's job.

I find that these things work best off a thumbnail sketch - it captures everything, but doesn't restrict.

 

When I next have some time, I'll invisible-cut a tray into the space behind the bottom moulding - bit like a secret compartment - not that I've got anything to hide, of course.

I like it, secrep. I also like using a reading stand. I had a box made that has a hinged lid that serves as a reading stand to bring a book or paper up to eye level. Much easier on the posture and sore eyes.

No, afraid not. I saw this thread and decided that the next time I tidied the desk I'd take a snap. It usually stays this tidy for about an hour... if I tidy just before lunch!

In the interest of full disclosure, here is actually where I write most of my letters. My cat has kindly vacated the tray so I can take a picture. I have no idea who it is on tv at the moment. I tried to clear away the cheetos... I have three other desks but am consigned to this tiny space because the desks are, you know, full.

I suffer from similar work space congestion...but have only one desk (and a small collapsible table to catch some of the runover). On your tube is, I believe, Gene Kranz who was a Flight Director at NASA. Worked missions from Mercury to Apollo; think he retired early in the Shuttle program.

This desk in not *my* desk, though it is in my office at home - this is my wife's desk.

We resisted sharing an office for years: it seemed too clingy; besides which, my wife had her own much bigger office in an outbuilding. But this past weekend, we set up this tank desk where my beloved console stereo used to sit.

 

It ends up that it's quite nice, really. We having been spending more time at our desks this past week.

 

And if you look at the larger image, you'll see my wife's fountain pens hidden in a parfait glass amidst the foliage. Gold star to anyone who can identify them through the leaves.

 

My own desk is on the opposite side of the room and seems far less cosy looking, now that I have my wife's to compare it to ...

I *do* like this thread. I'm mainly replying just to keep this floating up where it will attract more attention and more desk photos for our voyeuristic thrills.

Following from my OP (#1131) showing my home office, I thought I'd post a couple of pics of my desk space in my holiday home.  The desk is small and situated in part of the alcove in the Master Bedroom.  The view through the ceiling window is very similar to my avatar (which is from the living room).  I really love this space which is soon to be repainted and re-carpeted with the inspiration coming, in part, from the easy chair.  I am sitting there as I type this, listening to music, watching the clouds roll in over the mountains with a lovely autumn breeze blowing through the window.  I feel so privileged.

That's an appealing spot: tidy, bright, focussed. The kind of desk which is hard to achieve in one's regular (non-holiday-home) life.

Hah! It's a very small desk so if it's cluttered I can't use it. It works well though, because it forces me to focus rather than jump all over the place. My home office desk(s) are also tidy because I need an aesthetically pleasing environment to think while working. However, the piles of folders/papers etc sit in piles fanned out on the floor when I'm working, so I can turn and see them or turn away as need be. At home, my little dog can usually be found lying on the floor with his head resting on the pile closest to me, to ensure I can't escape without him knowing.

 

On another point, your pics show a tidy/organised desk anyway!

Good point. Though being so large, it don't think that it's worth so many neatness points as a small, neat desk.

Several years ago, I photographed the Woodrow House Museum in Washington, DC. It was the last home of President Woodrow Wilson. Built in 1915, it has never been modernized or remodeled and remains as it was at the time of his death in 1924.

My desk, a former architect's drafting table that I picked up from the architectural firm Dewberry & Davis 20 some years ago when they switched from pencil and paper to Auto CAD.
