The glass top is the only surviving peice of a desk I bought at office depot years ago. It wobbles less just setting on these shelves than it did properly assembled.

Someday I hope to have one of those super heavy 1950's era metal office desks.

Is that BeOS on that laptop?

I am totally amazed!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I'm really jealous of the workspaces some of you have! At least you've all given me great inspiration when I have the funds and the living space for an actual study. My current place is tiny, and so, despite my age, I wound up having bought a kid's loft bed with a desk underneath so I can make better use of my room's vertical space.

I've considered getting one myself.

  • 1 month later...

My desk faces a wall and there is a display, keyboard, printer, drawing tablet on it, so I tend to write at the dining table. My father made a beautiful and practical writing slope for me:

The angle is adjustable with a couple of wing nuts and two sliding parts, not visible here. It is large enough to rest both arms on the slope while writing. (I've pushed the paper al the way up because otherwise it wouldn't stay put for the photo.)

I love your minimalist aesthetic, and especially the table. Could you please tell us what company made the table/desk?

Here are some pics of my desk which I made into a pen display desk. Got the desk from Pottery Barn and had the display made that slips under the glass top of the desk.

I bought the dining table almost 9 years ago from a local shop called Lubbers in the Netherlands. They called it "Extreme" but I could not find which company actually designed or manufactured it.

I still like it very much: sturdy like an old-fashioned table, but with modern accents like the aluminium pieces.

I now have a severe case of desk-envy! Your desk is fabulous - I love the many little drawers and compartments. I bet it's a joy to write at.

That's a beautiful desk!
I have an oak S-Roll from Union Pacific. I love it.

Here's what I've been using the last few days since I gave my 5 year old my Ikea desk and my iMac (don't feel too bad, got myself a retina MBP)

I could use some help getting this desk some more. I'm trying to figure out how to get light onto the desktop and still be able to close it up (it's in our guest room).

I'd also like ideas on how to set it up to use my laptop on it with an external monitor eventually.

Still haven't thought of anything other than a floor lamp.

BTW, the top of the doors have an arch to them where the cabinet is square across the top if like you me were thinking of clipping something to the top.

Have you tried some of those LED lights that use batteries? They have really improved and my dad now uses them in his china cabinet. You can even get ones with remote controls. Totally dig the Hardy Boys books.

Nope, hadn't thought of those, that's a really good idea.

The Hardy Boys are my wife's and the Tom Swift are mine (danger of being the grandson of an aerospace engineer).

Journal idea: I purchased an up-cycled journal with a cover and some salvaged pages from an old Hardy Boys novel (coptic stitching, and all) because I lived and breathed H-boys as a kid. I move through that journal sloooooowly cuz I am loathe to fill it. Courtesy of ETSY.
