Love the stand up metal desk. Reminds me of something I was taught as a child when being encouraged to stand up to work; 'There's a switch on your bum that turns your brain off.'

haha I like the quote. I think the fact it is a stand up desk has more to do with us not having a spot to sit, saving space, and the fact that none of the paperwork we do takes more than 30 seconds :P

Thanks! I actually got it at a discount homegoods store, and then custom cut the foam myself.

It turned out much better than I had initially thought!

The glass top is the only surviving peice of a desk I bought at office depot years ago. It wobbles less just setting on these shelves than it did properly assembled.

Someday I hope to have one of those super heavy 1950's era metal office desks.

Browsing this thread made me look at some desks, and I found this:

That's one expensive desk!

My desk faces a wall and there is a display, keyboard, printer, drawing tablet on it, so I tend to write at the dining table. My father made a beautiful and practical writing slope for me:

The angle is adjustable with a couple of wing nuts and two sliding parts, not visible here. It is large enough to rest both arms on the slope while writing. (I've pushed the paper al the way up because otherwise it wouldn't stay put for the photo.)

Gorgeous. And I love that you are listening to Bach. Divine. :)

I have over 70 pipes in my collection, most are briars from the UK, Denmark, and Italy, a few meerschaums from Turkey.

I also own (stricktly for collecting) several from exotic places for smoking all type of drugs, including a chinese antique for opium. These are mostly gifts from globetrotting friends.

I´ll have to wait for sunny day to take some pics

That's gorgeous. And I really love the writing slant. I've been trying to think of how to put one together.

I'll try to take a picture showing the adjustable mechanism when I get a chance.

Listening to Bach while writing is marvellous. Solo violin works great for me, but solo piano is good as well. When I'm practising, it's usually music like this and I use the iPad to browse through an instruction book while it plays music. A great way to focus.

Baroque music is wonderful for creative work. I also suggest checking out some of the harpsichord stuff Bach wrote. I have a collection by Trevor Pinnock that's really wonderful.

I also see you're drinking tea. :-)

I recently moved my iMac to another surface and keeping my desk for longhand writing, drawing, origami, etc. I too use my iPad for necessary instruction. While I love what my iMac does (email, internet, music, movies, word processing, photo storage/editing), I am happier in analog.

Well, I finally got around to shooting a couple of pictures of my desk. It is cleaner than usual, although I try not to let it get to be too much of a mess. I just realized I should have taken a picture of my computer desk, but didn't. The computer desk is on the opposite wall in my rather small office, so I use one chair for both desks.
