Well this is a picture of my desk in my home office, which is far prettier than the one in my works office.

It is a 'A.Cutler & Son' desk from the Desk Factory in Buffalo, New York, made in 1901. Not sure how it got to Cheshire in England but I loved it on first sight. The chair is around 1898.

On the left is a 1920s Bankers Lamp and on the right is my renovated telephone 1934 bakerlite 232 pyramid model (imagine, no caller ID, no ring back, no speed dial, no touch dial....fabulous

Pens are kept in this superb case. The calendar on the top is circa 1910

All-in-all I find it a pleasing place to write (or escape to!)

Pavoni.

Man, what a nice and beautiful desk! You will not catch me arguing about it being a good place to escape to.

Oh - another thread I can play in, yay!

All Ikea gear I'm afraid. I intend to invest in a decent solid wood writing desk when we return to the UK next year.

I have a 675 ft2 house, so I don't have room for a desk or a dining room table. The closest thing to a desk that I have is a wooden TV tray that I can fold up and put away. Right now, my laptop and two fountain pens are sitting on it. I frequently write on notebooks sitting in my lap.

Sorry to be boring, but it is a small house.

On a happy note, my living room contains a lot of bookshelves, and I have yet more in the bedroom, and some more in the basement.

I should post a photograph. The TV tray sits between the coffee table and the loveseat.

Not sure what kind of financial situation you're in, but if you've got a few hundred to spend, you could get a L shaped couch to replace those two, and fit in a small desk in the space you'll get (left of picture). That would free up some room, maybe even make your cozy little living room feel more modern with a new fancy couch :)

I would like a new couch and I have the money, but I have other financial priorities at the moment. I want to put in trim (the previous owner was great at starting but not finishing projects). I also want to replace the two doors. I'm not sure about the L-shaped couch. There is a heater vent in the corner that the furniture is arranged to avoid.

But, that is a good idea if I can work it in!

I had a similar issue until I discovered heater vent extenders.

Thanks. I just ordered one! I'm going to try it out in the living room. (It might also solve the problem with heating in the kitchen.) I'm not going to buy new furniture right now, but I'm going to be able to rearrange the living room more like that L-shaped couch with the furniture I already have. Maybe I'll have the room then for a small desk.

Here's mine - usually it stays pretty tidy but for now it's extra tidy as I'm stuck doing computing coursework at the moment :(

I have a workstation for my computer, I like to keep my computer and art/writing separate

And the draw of art/writing stuff :)

Here's my workstation. Note, I used to be a professional gamer back in high school, so I had three 27'' monitors set up. Later, I retired from that to pursue more philanthropic goals in my life, and that ended up involving giving away my third monitor and replacing the space with a few notebooks and my printer.

Top Right Drawer: Fountain pen inks/boxes

Top Left Drawer: Pens, other office supplies.

Bottom Right: File Cabinet

Bottom Left: Spare computer parts (Mouses, CPU, etc.)

That's funny, I JUST got rid of that theme in Rainmeter last night!

What did you play back in your pro gaming days?

If I get a chance tonight I shall show off my desk. If not then you will all have to wait until tomorrow night :P

Halo 3, and (unfortunately) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1. I did some semipro gaming on CS 1.6 on pc, but that was more for fun.

Cool. That is definitely something neat to have on a resume or as a conversation piece.

Work desk. I don't have a desk at home, as the office belongs to my wife who works from home in a sense. If I need workspace I typically just use the kitchen table.

That is sexy!

You know what would go well with that? A traditional brass piano lamp:

Sit it on top of the desk, right in the middle, and it'll give you all the light you need.

I had no idea those were piano lamps, even though I have one on my piano :P

That's what they're called. Piano lamps. My aunt has one on her piano, too!

Or you could do what I did, and buy a traditional Emeralite Banker's Lamp:

For over 100 years, these have been among the most popular desk-lamps ever, since they came out in 1909.

Any lighting-shop worth its salt will have a selection of these. Hell, you could find them EASILY on places like Gumtree, Etsy, and eBay for sure.
