After a lot of tidying and rearranging, the final product of my "vintage desktop":

It's kind of strange seeing a chain-link fence behind your desk.

What's the deal with that? Where IS your desk anyway?!

I'd love a rolltop! Why is it that you want to buy one?

I'd like to have a rolltop desk for the look of it and the thought of an old, oak rolltop desk... C'mon, it doesn't get better than that.

Oh hey, I used to have a computer like that one many years back. Ended up setting it on fire because it was too slow.

It's a pain sometimes, but I'd rather keep getting pens before a new laptop.

The chain-link fence was part of the industrial look of my room. It's under my bed, and IS inside my room. Lol.

I went to go look at it but it was made out of particle boarding and had some water damage. :bonk:

I have a 675 ft2 house, so I don't have room for a desk or a dining room table. The closest thing to a desk that I have is a wooden TV tray that I can fold up and put away. Right now, my laptop and two fountain pens are sitting on it. I frequently write on notebooks sitting in my lap.

 

Sorry to be boring, but it is a small house.

 

On a happy note, my living room contains a lot of bookshelves, and I have yet more in the bedroom, and some more in the basement.

 

I should post a photograph. The TV tray sits between the coffee table and the loveseat.

Not sure what kind of financial situation you're in, but if you've got a few hundred to spend, you could get a L shaped couch to replace those two, and fit in a small desk in the space you'll get (left of picture). That would free up some room, maybe even make your cozy little living room feel more modern with a new fancy couch :)

I would like a new couch and I have the money, but I have other financial priorities at the moment. I want to put in trim (the previous owner was great at starting but not finishing projects). I also want to replace the two doors. I'm not sure about the L-shaped couch. There is a heater vent in the corner that the furniture is arranged to avoid.

 

But, that is a good idea if I can work it in!

 

I had a similar issue until I discovered heater vent extenders.
