I love threads like this.

Everything you need to know about my desk (which includes a picture - and yes you can click on it to make it bigger) is in one of my blog posts here.

That photo is a bit old now, I have had a tidy-and-organise session or three since then, but it's still quite close to how my desk looks.

I like to collect the cheap, cheerful and colourful!

At the moment the study is a mess, needs sorting out and improving. I now use this piece of new furniture to work and for writing at. Its great, if rather bare at the moment:

So FPN'ers, what should I put in or on it? Probably will need a light, althought the room is well lit. Need to try and keep it clutter free and child friendly!

da vinci, that is a very cool desk. I see it appears to have the mechanism where the braces also slide out to support the desk, very nice. I would not put much on it since you have to move it to open desk, but yes, I think a lamp would be nice. Maybe something in the old Banker's lamp style?

Very nice looking desk.

+1 for floor lamp. I have to move the lamp on mine to open the window behind it and that gets old in a hurry. :headsmack:

Wow, this is impressive :yikes:

What is this called and where would I be able to find something like this.

I bought it from a dept store in the UK called Rossiters...

My great-grandfather's desk, now mine, complete with built in inkwell just above the Triomphe pad. It's a spinet style, so it folds shut like an old-fashioned piano. The base where the paper is sitting pulls out to give a deeper writing surface.

Ghost Plane, I believe you will recognize this desk, that I also received from my grandfather. Although the legs of mine are not pictured, they are identical to those on your desk.

The history on mine does not go back quite as far as yours though!

Rossiters of Bath are clearing this handsome desk at 629GBP (instead of 699GBP), and it seems a reasonable price! First time I see this mechanism to open the writing surface, with the advantage of inner drawers accesible even when closed. Sharp!

I still have my old desk, the one my father made just before I started high school, but I'm afraid it's been relegated to a small bedroom and is used to pile stuff upon. Sails and other boat stuff, photo class work, old computer display. It does however, store my stationery and inks.

I prefer writing in my living room, where there's a stereo, TV, nice chairs, books, tea or coffee, etc. So I usually sit at my dining table, even if the height isn't ideal. This is how it looked a few weeks ago when I was working from home:

Looks very much the same except for no center drawer between the pigeon holes. Did yours have one at some point or are they variants on a style? :hmm1:

At least we know we share families with good taste. :vbg:

No, never had one. Must be variants on the style. Where your center drawer is is a "lip" that looks like it was cut with a bandsaw. The other difference I now notice is the trim running all the way across the desk at the bottom of the lower drawer. I'll try to post a photo of this desk but it's Monday!

Love this thread. Since nobody has posted for almost a month, I thought I better add the clunker that I've been dragging around for 25 years (don't know how old it really is). At least I was forced to clean it up last week to replace the hard drive in my computer. If my wife ever gets her way, it will end up in the dungeon and I'll be sitting at some snappy looking IKEA contraption.

The table where I do my wood engraving is in the foreground. Beyond it is my writing desk with an inspiring view of the back yard. It is a great place to read and write letters. The only trouble is I can also see when the lawn needs mowing.

My Dad's office had some with drawer handles like that which were purchased in the 1950s.
