Well, everyone has such neat desks. I'm kind of embarrassed to post my messy desk. Oh well. :headsmack:

This is where I spend my evenings, many times until late at night. The desk, an auction find for $5, is large and solid oak. In the back you can see my new ink window display, which was an interior window, now put to good use. The desk blotter is hand made and is my fall desk blotter. The blotter paper is a deep vermilion. Unfortunately, you can see the the chair, I refer to it as the "Beast", that I had forgotten to move out of camera range. That chair will go away, as I've put in word out to Santa, or in my case, Santas. :vbg:

Please forgive the poor picture quality.

The ink window is 7ft tall by 36 inches.

My desk at the office...

Sometimes it is messy and sometimes not, depends on what I am working on, but if I can procrastinate while supposedly working on a brief by straightening up my desk, or doodling with my newest acquisition, well, hell, I'm all for it.

My great-grandfather's desk, now mine, complete with built in inkwell just above the Triomphe pad. It's a spinet style, so it folds shut like an old-fashioned piano. The base where the paper is sitting pulls out to give a deeper writing surface.

Beautiful desk. How old is the desk?

Best guesstimate, between 1840s and 1870s. The bottom of the inkwell says: Squires Inkwell Co, Pittsburg PA, 14

The family home was there until 1948 when it burned down. I have a picture of the gent sitting on the front porch after it was built in the 1860s.

The desk went to my great aunt, who left it to her twins who never married, who left it to my dad, who left it to me. I think we're getting our money's worth out of it! :cloud9:

It's beginning to get a little sun bleached after all these years. There's a circle where someone's lamp stood for too many years and a darker streak on the top where it's been left open a lot. But a good dose of orange or almond oil and it polishes right up and performs beautifully. I prefer writing on the top with it shut since I'm taller than previous generations.

Mmmm. I get a feeling of contentment knowing how many generations sat down to write at it. The design is one of those marriages of form and function that make it very comfortable to use. :cloud9:

I grew up with the same style desk in the living room. My Folks still have it. I just saw one for sale at an Antique store listed as a "Piano Desk" for around $300.00. There was no Ink well in the desk my folks had. Brings back memories.
