- I like the Eames Lounge Chair!

Thanks! I love that chair! I hope one time I'll be able to own one! ($2600)

- Me too. I just looked at one in a store the other day. A good quality one costs $11 597. Not a chair for a student budget.....

$11 597?!

That must be a rare version or an original numbered one!

It sells from $3700 to ~$6000 with ottoman at HermanMiller and its a licensed source....

But it doesn't really matter! Still way out of budget! :crybaby:

Very nice desk! Do you find it nice writing in the basement? I once put my desk in the basement but I just didn't like it and ended moving it to my room.

For some reason, I find this thread very entertaining. It's fun to see where other people work. Here are a couple pictures of my desk on a typical Friday. The paintings were done by my wife. And yes, espresso and cookies are both critical to my productivity.

Very boring, but a desk nevertheless.

To the top left are my slides and a wrapper from the current film in my '56 Rolleicord (Velvia 50) and an exposed roll of Ilford film to be used for practicing rolling the film on a spool when I eventually get around to developing my own 120 film.

Below the film and slides are my three pens (Geha Goldswinge 736, Parker Sonnet, Parker '34 Vacumatic Junior Slender). Below that are my ID card from work and key holder (I work in a prison (Education Coordinator, currently Business Manager); lots of keys). To the right, the postcards I've recently received (need to reply to two). Sheets of paper for practicing my terrible writing, a battery charger above that for my digital camera which I hardly ever use (I like vintage German cameras; 120 Medium Format film).

Above that my ink bottles, the brass one (holding my own mix (J.Herbin Café Des Iles/PR Sherwood Green) I think made from an artillery shell, my desk lamp, my music player (Pearl Jam, Ben Harper, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Neil Young, System of a Down, Led Zeppelin, Leonard Cohen, John Butler Trio, Jane's Addiction, Jack Johnson, Frank Sinatra, Cat Stevens, Bob Marley, Black Sabbath, The Dandy Warhols, The Smashing Pumpkins) several boxes filled with vintage cufflinks (I wear cufflinks everyday at work, only vintage; never new), and some collar stiffeners.

Below the desk is an old typewriter (for when I want to pretend to be an author), an old working 8mm movie projector and an old vintage 120mm slide projector (working).

The desk needs to be stripped and re-polished, and needs a good dusting!

BTW, I never actually SIT at my desk...

A TLR man like me! If only I can get enough time to do some serious photography these days. Some fascinating desks here!

It has been quite a while but I've finally acquired a camera and taken a few photos of my desk and pens. If I figure out how to post them you can all see them!

I have those same chairs across from my desk and same books (different state) in my office as well, but my wife has the camera :headsmack:

Just found this thread - good fun! So should I tidy up my space and make sure that a few of my favorite possessions are in the shot - nah (cheating) here it is large as life.

Like most I have several 'desk' places, this is my 'I'm hanging out in Australia for a while' desk, and being Australia, it's an outdoor desk, protected from sun and rain but with plenty of fresh air. I'm in the middle of a clear up at the moment, but it began about a year ago so may in fact be a permanent state.

Beak, your desk has all the accoutrements needed for productivity/creativity:

Cigarettes, coffee, alcohol, battered computer, ink. Nearby houseplants a plus.

You deserve a gold star sticker.

Neo-Georgian walnut desk designed and built by my grandfather. Not posed - I'm in the throes of planning a novel (my seventh) and needed a break...

Mr. Tomes,

A very nice desk, indeed. And one of the few on this thread sans computer. I maintain different desks as well for digital and analog pursuits.

I hope to post an image of my writing desk in the near future.

Here's my dorm-room desk, cleared off today because I couldn't work in the common room.

That's my Pelikan M150 loaded with Diamine Teal, sitting on top of my Linear Algebra notes. All the while, it's evident that I'm not working ... due to FPN being open (heh!) I was taking a break. Really. Honestly.

Never become complacent.

Very nice desk! Do you find it nice writing in the basement? I once put my desk in the basement but I just didn't like it and ended moving it to my room.

It's a roomy room with windows, dry and light with good temperature control. Beside the writing desk is a steel table with computer stuff, and the room also contains my stereo, recording equipment, CDs, music instruments, and a futon -- it's a pleasant studio, to me, so I spend a lot of time here, whether I'm writing, playing music, idling on FPN, or whatever. For me, the basement aspect is useful because it is separate from all the primary living areas of the house. When I write, I need long spans of uninterrupted head space - the basement studio is quiet and remote enough from the rest of the house to give the privacy I need. I guess it depends on the basement -- I know some basements definitely would not work for me - I don't like dark, cold, damp, cluttered, or small spaces. And, of course, I've done a fair bit of work to make sure that it does work for me. Setting up the writing desk away from the computer helps my focus and prevents distractions. I'm easily distracted.

Thanks for asking - it's interesting to think about what helps with writing and what doesn't. Before I set up the writing desk, my favorite place for writing with a pen was on my bed with a small piece of plywood for a lap desk. That sometimes got awkward. On the other hand, since my job involves sitting at a desk in front of a computer all day, having some other physical position for personal writing does occasionally make for a good break.

Mr. TDuchamp,

I eagerly await the images of your writing desk, and I hope you are putting it to worthy use. And thank you for the tour of Vollis Simpson's amazing place today. Wow! Just wow! An inspiration and a lesson for us all.

It's difficult to post on FPN without a computer, which probably accounts for a lot of the desks with computers on this thread. The people with beautiful desks and wonderful fountain pen collections, but with no computers, probably are not well represented here. And I wonder how many of that sort of people are out there these days. It's hard to know.

Most of it... it seems quite incomplete without your "Do NOT touch MY pen!" poster. I need one of those, myself.
