Here are some pics of my newly decorated study. My son moved out four years ago, and finally I've procured his old room for my study. The room is only 6'9" x 9'2" but I've managed to squeeze a lot in, as you can see. The tall white chest is full of craft things, the little brown drawers on top of my computer hard drive holds my FPs. My husband and son built the wall mounted bookshelf which now hold games, children's novels, (I write books for kids)and my large collection of one particular vintage perfume. The large floor standing bookcase is a quick-assembly job. The small toolbox under my desk holds my inks. I've taken photos as a panorama. I hope it looks OK (PS: every one has been taken from sitting height)

I work at home, and I've two desks. One is for my laptop, the other is for longhand writing (e.g. book, notes, letters). Here's my writing desk.

Now I'm going to have to get one of those!

Well, this is from just before we moved, but it's pretty much the same now, only the wall is white (blech), and I have less free space (also blech). I have my pens elsewhere, and will post a snap when I have a chance to take one!

I have one pen too many. I have about about 20 pens all inked. Many of them have their unique nibs and hence writing characteristics.

When I write something these days. I find myself reaching for these different pens . My wife thinks I have lost it. How many of you out there are like me.

Surely , I am not alone . Right? Some pictures to share.

Bought this solid timber desk in Ballarat in 1980 for $30, and would not part with it. Space is limited, so I do tend to work at our dining table or kitchen bench when I need to spread out more. I've included a close up of the pen case for good measure ;>}

I figure it's time to post an update as I switched offices. I knew I was moving so I sort of planned more what I wanted in this office and slowly acquired the things I wanted so when I moved they could go in pretty quickly! So on with the pics (more of my office, than specifically my desk).

Just an overall view of the front of the desk. Nice and clean like I like it. (Not always that way, but I try try try my hardest). You'll notice on the wall the 4 pictures staggered are Richard Binder's cutaway pictures. They have drawn quite a bit of attention and interest from most people that walk in here. The picture to the far right is a handwritten quote from the prince (My favorite quote by far), inked by one of our own! The top is Italian and the bottom is the English Translation. I'm still working managing the cord situation under the desk. I get a new computer with dual 22" monitors though in a few weeks so I'm figuring I'll reorganized them then.

View of the back of the desk. Mainly a filing area. The most noticeable thing I think though is the Noodlers ink collection up top! Certainly draws the most questions out of anything my office (my office mates now think I really am certifiably crazy). It literally stretches the full length of the back with 3 oz bottles (some are hiding behind 4.5 oz bottles). On the lower left is my pen storage (all my pens are stored at work) Cubi Jr. Drawers with GoPens trays. in the bottom unit, the top unit hold my ink review books. The aquarium houses one cool red/blue betta fish. Again cord situation needs to be dealt with!

View when you walk in the door. The most important view to me at least. You'll notice a minimum amount of cords are seen on the top of the desk. Lots of writing space. Bookshelf in the back needs some help, but that'll come as soon as the rest of my new furniture arrives.

View from out my new windows!! Quite a difference, I used to be housed in an office in the basement, now I'm up on the second floor, with a great view of the campus. Right in front of the windows I have two big lateral files coming in, plus a wood counter for them. It'll become my filing station among other things. I will gain 7 feet of counter space by doing that, which will free up some other space as well! Really no paper work on my desk then!

Overall I'm super super happy with my office. It took a while to get up here and moved in, but I really created something I feel totally comfortable in and something that helps me work super efficiently and organized. My coworkers hate me for how organized I am actually, but I really do feel it starts with an organized office from the start, so that's what I strive for!

Regards,

Tom

Well after 5 office moves in a year (out of the office above, downstairs, and then now I'm finally back in this office, I had a chance to re-do it a bit more organized again. Some updates as well that I'm pretty pumped about. I've gone kind of to the minimalistic method.

A few things different. New Monitors, desk chair. Same desk, but much less on it. I've moved my current projects files from the back of the desk into a file cabinet under the desk to clean that space up. Fish tank went by the wayside (too much cleanup), pens came home with me, as well as all the inks. Someone mentioned the UV problem, which was a definite concern. Also the issue of theft was always in the back of my mind, so those came home too. One really neat thing I love is you'll see next to the monitors. I have installed an in-desk usb hub and ipod dock. Super clean and very useful!! All the cords were run up under the desk to the cpu which you can see on the back section of the desk.

Just a new view outside the window. The lateral files are new. Gotta have the coffee station setup! I haven't planted anything in the boxes yet, but I'm thinking grass and herbs. Thought it would be fun to see green grass in the winter time here!

Just a view walking into the office. You can see the bookcase finally got cleaned up a bit.

This is the favorite part of the office for me. I had it before, but had no time to really utilize it. Now you can see I do. It's a pretty large white board that I've been using to keep track of current projects, which is looking more daunting all the time!!

I'm really really pumped again for my office. It took a while to get it to this point but now that it's here I'm pretty excited.

Regards,

Tom

Wow, Tom, congratulations! My office looks similar except it looks like a team of burglars hit it. Your view is to die for! ...and the inks, the inks, the inks *swoon*

A beautiful desk, Thornton. What can you tell me about the clock behind your laptop?

Thanks! The desk is a reproduction, but a very good one and I like all the space I have. The clock is in the Victorian style with a nod to Eastlake and made of ebonized wood. There are also sections that look like marble, but are also wood. The handles and face are metal of some sort. It has been in my family since it was made in the late 1800s making it extra special.

I have the exact same stuffed crow-raven on my desk :)

It caws when you squeeze it, right?
