And a little closer look:

That is my desk and where I work at.

Maybe someday I will grab one from the office... but if you have seen one cube, you have seen just about all of them. :(

Hehehe, a sword near by when the pen just won't do...

Remember that the pen is mightier than the sword

If I ever get a writing desk or something specialized, I want to hang a massive sword on the wall over it...

The chaos is only apparent. Beneath the surface it's a midden. ;)

The desk is one I knocked together in a hurry out of a couple of wardrobe doors and some spare roofing timbers around 20 years ago, and extended as the need arose. I'd like to reorganize but the thought of moving that lot out always makes me think that going cycling would be a better idea. And it is, always.

When you're good at it, it's really miserable.

Thought I'd post an update as a before and after. Still a "floor sitter" after the manner of my ancestors (and hippies). Anyway, was:

Just got a smaller laptop and a separate monitor. Can't see it here but it's running clamshelled to the side of the desk. Anyway, much more space-efficient, which is a much desired characteristic in my quarters.

Hi

Just wondering, how can your legs stand being crossed/tucked underneath for stretches of time? I remember I went to Thailand on an exchange trip once and every time I ate (This was in a rural area and meals were eaten sitting down on the floor), my legs would complain loudly. This was made worse by the fact that in Thailand, you cant point your feet at anyone, which means that I cant stretch out my legs. I had to try my best to enjoy the food while periodically having to stretch. Not comfortable at all! I remember when I complained once they gave me this stool which was about 15cm high and it helped a little but not much. I cant see how you can stand it.

I'd assume that if you've been sitting that way for most of your life you'd be used to it.

I know this is probably old hat, but my philosophy is: A clean desk is a sign of messy drawers!

Indeed! I have an averagely clean desk, and above-averagely messy drawers!

That is extremely true for me. I figure I'll sacrifice some messy out of sight drawers for a spectacularly clean desk!

I am glad that this thread inspired me to take some pictures of my desk. I just realized that, because I leave for college in about a week, these may be the lasting records of my high school-era workspace.

Here are the pictures: (click on them for higher quality)

The inks and pens! Yay! Also, I bought the sword in the background in Toledo, Spain.

My beloved bamboo. It outgrew its original container, so I decided to put it in an Erlenmeyer flask I had laying around. My brother's desk is in the background.

As if the bamboo wasn't nerdy enough, I have a radian clock. Also, notice Don Quixote and Sancho Panza there too!

Very nice cello.

I've been lurking around looking at people's desk, figured I'd contribute mine since I just cleaned it up earlier today. Mine is nothing fancy, just salvaged old desk from around the house.

Always on the hunt for an 1800's desk. Was thinking of and School master desk. But think I should get something with a flat surface. This is what I use now. And Folds up nicely in the Man cave

You know my favorite part about all these desks?

EVERYBODY IS SO DIFFERENT! I love that about the FP community, random people who would never expect to enjoy the use of a fine FP will end up surprising you!

That clock disturbs me. If it's going to be labelled backwards (that is, clockwise), why not go all the way and put zero at the top?

Philip1209: I have not looked at this series of desk photos for some time because I get very jealous of the space many people have. However, getting curious again, I decided to browse. When I looked at your "radian clock" very bad memories of my high school course in trig (forgive the pun) got triggered. How doesone read the math on the clock face? Any introduction in the barest essentials would be appreciated. Thanks.
