I was just messing around with my camera's manual focus and realized that, technically, I'd taken a picture of my desk (actually, one of my three desks). I'll take a real one at some point so you can actually see the rest of the desk.

Here are a couple pictures of my desk:

Yes, those are Christmas lights above it. :) My bed is lofted, and Christmas lights make very nice lighting!

Here's a close-up. You can see my Staples bagasse notebook to the right of my MacBook and my new Rhodia notebook to the left.

And here is a photo of my "second-desk," so called because I keep all of my textbooks, inks, novels, notebooks, and more on it:

I can't believe you have Christmas lights in your room too. I have em in mine and half the time don't turn the other lights on.

My roommate and I love them. I don't even use my desk lamp because they are so bright! The overhead light usually doesn't come on either. :)

Irbyls,

That looks really pretty! Hey, could you take another set of shots with all the other lights off, but just the Christmas lights on? I'd love to see what it looks like!

Here's a shot that was taken with only the Christmas lights on. I have three strings of Christmas lights, each with 100 bulbs.

As you can see, the result is a remarkably bright and attractive work area. I can easily do homework or read with only these lights on. :)

Yes, it's from Target! :) I remember move-in day this year: my mother went CRAZY buying me furniture as soon as we got to Conway. That bookshelf was one of her purchases.

  • 3 weeks later...

I recently went through a desk-cleaning & reorganising stage, so I thought it would be a good time to photograph my desk. (NB: The selection of pens on this desk is in no way indicative of my full collection of fountain pens, which numbers in at around three dozen functional pieces).

My desk is L-shaped. One half is for writing, the other half is for computerising.

Here is the writing half of my desk, with selected pens on display:

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a215/Fruffles/Writing%20Pictures/D1-1.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a215/Fruffles/Writing%20Pictures/D4-1.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a215/Fruffles/Writing%20Pictures/D2-1.jpg

The breakdown of the stuff in the photos is as follows:

Pens:

MONTBLANC - Meisterstuck 145 Chopin w/matching ballpoint.

CARAN D'ACHE - Varius Snakewood.

PARKER 51 - Flighter + Pair of black w/gold-filled caps. (All in original Parker '51' boxes).

CONWAY STEWART - M70 & M58. (Not original box, but C/S nonetheless. The pen to which this box is original is actually being resacced at the moment, hence its absence).

SHEAFFER - Targa 1005 set. (In original box).

VISCONTI - Opera Elements 100/365; Ragtime 20th Anniversary LE 1592/1988.

Inks:

Noodlers, Sheaffer, Parker, unknown, calligraphy ink, Visconti (in box), Sheaffers.

Watches:

WALTHAM - M1895 from 1899. 14S 7J open-face 14kt gold-filled case. Crown wind & set.

BALL - 435C from ca. 1957. 16S 21J open-face 10kt gold-filled case. Crown wind, lever set. 8Adj, micrometric regulator, etc, etc...It's a railroad watch!

Both watches were wound and running at the times of the photographs and are used regularly.

Seals:

Chinese name-chop with my name in Chinese on it.

Sealing-stamp with letter S on it, for my first name. Not seen in their entireity are a half-dozen sticks of sealing-wax.

Well, you asked for it, so here is my disaster of a desk:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k121/drej16/FPN/desk1jpg.jpg

Or maybe a little better look at the parts would be this:

Or where I actually write at:

And a little closer look:

That is my desk and where I work at.

Maybe someday I will grab one from the office... but if you have seen one cube, you have seen just about all of them. :(

I guess 'messy' is a relative term! :D I thought my desk was pretty under control this week!

Quick question -- what do you call the green, ruled, desk mat thingy? I've been looking for one, but can't find one (probably because I don't know what it's called).

Help? Thanks!

EDIT: Found it! It's a cutting mat!

That is a desk protector/cutting mat. You use those to prevent damage to the desk itself when trimming or cutting papers with a scalpel or a snap-off knife. You can find those in most design/advertising agencies as they (still) do paper mock-ups etc.
